- Florence Evelyn (Miner) Kirk, 90, formerly of Wilbraham Road in Hampden and a former town official, died Wednesday at a local nursing home. She served on the Hampden Parks and Recreation Department and on the town's Housing Authority for 10 years. She also chaired the Housing Authority. She also was treasurer of the Hampden Republican Town Committee and the Hampden Garden Club and belonged to the Hampden Historical Society and the Lions Club Auxiliary.
She worked at the former Brooks Bank Note Co. and was later the statement department manager for 28 years at the former Bank of New England (previously Third National Bank). She retired in 1972.
Born in Essex, Conn., she lived in Springfield for 31 years and moved to Hampden in 1951. She lived on Wilbraham Road before moving to Charlton in 1994.
She was a 1927 graduate of the High School of Commerce in Springfield, where she was president of the freshman class. She attended Wesley Methodist Church in Springfield and Hampden Federated Community Church, where she was a deaconess and member of the YOLA Guild and the Ladies Aid Society.
Her husband, Frank J.T. Kirk, died in 1998. A son, James E., died in 1986; and a son, Frank C., died in 1981. She leaves two sons, Albert E. of Wilbraham and Robert E. of Brimfield; 16 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Saturday morning at Byron's Allen Street Funeral Home of Springfield. Calling hours are Friday afternoon and evening.
