    • Captain Albert B. Wilson, 75, of Falmouth, died November 9, 2012. He was the loving husband of Ellen V. (Granlund) Wilson to whom he was married for 51 years.
      Al was born in Worcester and spent his young life in Boylston. He graduated from Commerce High School, where he captained the football team, and then attended Massachusetts Maritime Academy, where he also captained the football team. Following his graduation from MMA in 1959, he spent the next six years sailing on tramp steamers around the world, and also joined the Navy Reserve. He returned to MMA after sailing and was appointed Commandant of Cadets, later becoming Assistant to MMA President Lee Harrington. During his tenor at MMA, he restarted the football program, hired the current Admiral Rick Gurnon, earned a Master's Degree from Worcester State College, was awarded Alumnus of the Year in 1996, received an Honorary PhD, held six executive positions including 15 years as Director of Cadet and Alumni Placement, established Merchant Marine Memorial, and was elected to MMA Athletic Hall of Fame. He was a Master of Freight and Towing Vessels including Pilotage of all Cape Cod waters, earned numerous certificates, and served aboard 60 vessels in the U.S. Merchant Marine including tankers, container vessels, passenger vessels, Ro-Ro's, oceanographic vessels, and training vessels. Director of Placement was the last position he held before retiring in 2010.
      In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Christina (Wilson) Bourgoin of Falmouth; his son, Gary Wilson of Falmouth; his grandchildren, Nicholas, Caitlin, and Harrison Bourgoin, and North and Riley Wilson; his sisters, Ruth McCauley of Holden, and Janet Dryden of Spencer; and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Raymond Wilson formerly of Sterling.
      Visiting hours will be from 4-7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 in the Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 475 Main St., FALMOUTH CENTER. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 14th at St. Patrick's Church, 511 Main St., Falmouth. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hope Dementia & Alzheimer's Services of Cape Cod & Islands for Research, 765 Attucks Lane, Hyannis, MA 02601
