  • Notes
    • Old Lyme - On Wednesday, May 4, 2016, Carol Banning (Noyes) Winters, passed away peacefully at home; the place where she was raised and she raised her family. She was surrounded by her three children: Scott, Christopher and Michelle.
Carol was born Sept. 5, 1946 and was a proud graduate of Lyme-Old Lyme High School, Class of 1964.
She was predeceased by her husband, Allen "Popi"; her brother, Wilson Noyes; and her parents, William and Winifred Noyes.
Of all the things she loved, her family was the most important. She is survived by Scott and his wife, Karen, and their two children, Jeffrey and Brian; Christopher and his daughter, Evelyn; and Michelle and her husband, Michael, and their three children, Brittney, Megan and Jon. Her granddogs, Jacob and Lucy, were a source of much enjoyment to her and the grateful recipients of her leftovers.
She had a strong group of her closest friends that spent every New Years Eve together. We hope that they will tell great stories about her when they ring in the next New Year and remember how much she loved you all. To her friends at the Flanders Baptist and Community Church, we are forever in awe at your sense of timing when you called her house to sing Amazing Grace to her, not knowing that she had just taken her last breath.
Always up for an estate sale, Carol spent many Saturday mornings with her antiquing buddies, but she was the happiest picking wild blueberries in the woods of Whippoorwill to make her famous Bishops Bread. The recipe will never be quite the same without the addition her love for us all.
Carol was a generous volunteer with the Visiting Nurses Association, The Old Lyme Historic District Commission, the Mary Noyes Award and The Old Lyme Historical Society. Her bookkeeping skills kept her mind sharp and her pencil even sharper as she prepared tax returns and balanced the checkbooks of many.
The family would also like to thank the nurses and doctors at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital and Bridebrook Health and Rehabilitation Center as well as Center for Hospice Care for their kindness and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Old Lyme Historic Society Scholarship, P.O. Box 352, Old Lyme, CT 06371 or the Mary Hubbard Noyes Scholarship Award, P.O. Box 56, Old Lyme, CT 06371.
We love you a bushel and a peck and a hug around the neck.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, May 11, 2016, in the Grassy Hill Congregational Church, 371 Grassy Hill Road, Lyme. Interment will follow in Duck River Cemetery.
