  • Notes
    • Floyd Bailey King, the son of Silas and Grace Bailey King, was born December 24, 1921 in rural Dickens, Iowa. Floyd was raised on a farm south of Dickens, and attended country school a half mile from his home. He attended Dickens High School in his 9th and 10th grades and then switched to Gillett Grove, where he graduated in 1939. After high school, Floyd worked with his Dad on the farm. He enjoyed working with machinery, repairing and doing welding. He built numerous small units and modified new equipment.
In May of 1944, he was drafted in the U.S. Army and went off to boot camp at Fort Lewis, WA. He served in South Korea, where he was stationed in the southern tip of South Korea. Following his Honorable Discharge, he returned to the States in May of 1947. Floyd then moved to Detroit, MI where he worked as an auto mechanic. In 1949, Floyd returned to Iowa and began farming with his father.
In 1954, he met Margie Rouse Aldinger. They were married on October 15, 1955. They spent most of their married life on two farms south of Dickens, Iowa. Besides farming, Floyd raised cattle and was active in helping to organize the Clay County Cattleman's Association serving on the board and as President for two years. Floyd was a long time active member of the Gillett Grove United Methodist Church where he held many positions. Floyd also served as Trustee for Logan Township for several years and served on the Dickens Coop Board. In 1984, Floyd retired from farming. Floyd and Margie started spending their winter months in Mesa, Arizona for the next 13 years where they made many friends from across the country. In 2000, they moved to Spencer and then in January of 2007, they moved to the Ruthven Community Care Center. While living in Spencer, Floyd was a member of the Golden K and a member of Hope Reformed Church. In his spare time, Floyd enjoyed playing golf, pool and bowling and in his later years he liked to play snooker at the Senior Center. Most of all, Floyd loved his family and was very proud of them.
On August 16, 2013, Floyd passed away at the Spencer Hospital at the age of 91. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Darrel King; sister, Lois Gritten and one granddaughter, Ashley King.
He is survived by his wife Margie of Ruthven; his children: Bill (Ginger) Aldinger of Livingston, TX, Marcia (Bill) Jackson of Sante, SC, David King of Estherville, IA and Denny (Kerry) King of Dickens, IA; 8 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
