    • George Bostwick
      Longtime resident of Hood River, George Eben Bostwick, passed away March 27, 2004, at Providence Hospital in Portland, Ore. He was 78 years of age.
      Funeral services will be held at Anderson Tribute Center on Friday, April 2, at 2 p.m. with interment at Idlewild Cemetery in Hood River.
      George was born in Battle Creek, Mich., on March 14, 1926, the son of Lyle D. and Edith Wilson Bostwick.
      He was preceded in death by an older brother Kenneth and has two living sisters, Marie of Battle Creek, Mich., and Betty of Spray, Ore. His family moved to Portland when he was three years old and he attended grade school there. They moved to Hood River for eighth grade at Barrett School, then back to Portland to complete grade school. He returned to Hood River in 1940 to attend high school. He graduated in 1944.
      On Feb. 1, 1944, George joined the U. S. Navy and he served in the South Pacific Theater - New Guinea, Australia and the Philippine Islands. He was discharged May 26, 1946, in Bremerton, Wash., and returned to Hood River where he married his childhood sweetheart, Eileen Evans, at the old Hood River Valley Christian Church on Sept. 9, 1946.
      George and Eileen were blessed with two children, Thomas George and Annette Louise, and four grandchildren: Marsha Schnieder of Fredricksburg, Va.; Mary Bostwick of Hood River; Becky and Joshua Owen, of Corvallis, Ore.
      George worked most of his life in the Hood River Valley that he loved. During his employed years he worked at the saw mill in Dee; in the Radliff Orchards; as a salesman at Hood River Supply; a realtor for Larry Young and 26 years for the United States Postal Service where he retired on July 9, 1985.
      After retirement George enjoyed having the time to continue working in the garden; boating on the Columbia (especially in the wind); hiking; camping; fishing; metal detecting and he and his wife enjoyed traveling extensively in the United States and other countries.
      From his youth, George had been involved in the Christian faith. He was active in the Hood River Valley Christian Church for 34 years having served as a deacon and an elder and helped in the construction of the present building. In his later years he had been active in the Odell and Tucker Road Baptist Churches.
