YOUTH, SHOT IN FOOT, DIES AFTER LEG AMPUTATION
Horace Wiley, 14, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Wiley of Cayuga Village, died yesterday morning at the City Hospital, following an operation performed Saturday afternoon for the amputation of a portion of his right leg.
The boy was accidentally shot in the right foot while hunting pheasants November 9 in a field South of Cayuga by his cousin Roland Ridley. The lads were both chasing a wounded pheasant when in some unaccountable manner Ridley's gun was discharged. The gun load struck Wiley in the right foot Wiley was brought to the City Hospital in Auburn. It was thought that the foot might be saved but late last week infection developed and an operation Saturday became imperative. Wiley failed to rally from the amputation in his weakened condition from loss of blood and shock. He died yesterday morning.
Surviving the youth are his parents, Fred T. and Anna Lyon Wiley; a brother, Frederick Wiley; a sister, Anna Wiley, and his grandmothers, Mrs. H. S. Wiley of Cayuga and Mrs. Brainerd Lyon of King Ferry.
The funeral will be held at the home of the parents at 3 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. Rev. Thomas Lask, pastor of the Baptist Church at Throopsville, will conduct the services. Interment will be in Cayuga Cemetery.
