  United States Senator. A practicing attorney in Omaha, Nebraska, and an assistant attorney for the Union Pacific Railroad, he was elected to the United States Senate from Nebraska and served from 1895 to 1901. Following his Senate term, he resumed the practice of law in Omaha and Washington, D.C.
