- Paul Nelson King, Sr. died on May 31, 2017 at the Soldiers' Home in Holyoke. Born in Chicopee on August 6, 1930, he was the son of the late Pearl Nelson King and Paul Edward Thomas King. He grew up in Agawam and then in East Longmeadow. In 1950, he married Jane A. Nobbs and they cherished 55 years together, she died in 2007. Paul was drafted into military service where he proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War earning The Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Stars. He was employed by Sweet Life Foods for over 40 years retiring in 1995 as the warehouse selector. He will be dearly missed by his children; Allan D. King Sr. and wife Laurie, Karen King Sierakowski and her husband Michael, Richard D. King Sr. and his wife Nancy, Robert N. King Sr. and his wife Mira and Laura Lynn King Hendrickson and her husband David. His son Paul King Jr. passed away on May 11, 2017; (girlfriend Gloria Merrill). He was a grandfather to 15; Deena, Jason, Allan Jr., Patrick, Michael Jr., Crystal, Melissa, Richard Jr., Jennifer, Zachary, Katrina, Kayla, Robert Jr., Thomas and Joseph. Paul is also a great grandfather to nine. He leaves his sister Phyllis Brown. Throughout his life Paul enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening, visiting local pubs and could build and fix just about anything. The family would like to thank the Soldiers' Home for caring for their father with honor and dignity. All are welcome to attend his burial with Military Honors on Friday, June 2, at the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Agawam at 11 am.
