    Richard David Kotecki Sr., 74, of New London, died on Thursday, Aug. 20, 2009, surrounded by his loving family at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London.
    Born July 31, 1935, in Norwich, he was the son of the late Charles Kotecki and Sophie (Pureda) Kotecki.
    He was the husband of Barbara (Hamler) Kotecki, whom he married on Nov. 27, 1954, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in New London.
    He was employed by City Of New London for 34 years as a truck driver as well as a custodian. Richard proudly defended workers rights throughout his employment with the City of New London serving for over 30 years as president of Local 1378 of the American Federation of State County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) which represents public work employees throughout the city. He also served as an officer for the Southeastern Connecticut Labor Council. Richard dedicated his life to public service working on all of the many Charter Revision Commissions for the City of New London throughout the past 25 years. Most recently he assisted as a member of the City of New London Water Commission. Richard's previous associations included membership with the City's Democratic Town Committee as well as a member of the City of New London's Affirmative Action Committee.
    Richard's hobbies included fishing with his sons and cooking breakfast every Sunday morning for his family. He also enjoyed working in his garden and was always willing to share its generous bounty with friends and family.
    In addition to his beloved wife of 54 years, he is survived by his loving sons, Richard David Kotecki Jr. of Griswold, Jeffrey Kotecki of Niantic, Greg Kotecki of Ledyard, and David Kotecki of Quaker Hill; a brother, Charles Kotecki of Ledyard; a sister, Delores "Dee" Thorp; six grandchildren, three step grandchildren and three step great-grandchildren.
    The funeral will assemble at 9:15 a.m. on Tuesday at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Ave., New London and proceed to St. Mary Star of the Sea Church, Huntington St., New London, for a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Jefferson Ave., New London. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 24, 2009, at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Ave., New London.

    Barbara Ann Kotecki Montville- Barbara Ann Kotecki, 80 formally of New London, and a current resident of Uncasville died at home on March 31st, 2017, surrounded by her loving family. Barbara (Nana has she was best known by all who loved her) was born August 2, 1936, in New London, Connecticut, she was the daughter of the late Eunice (Daniels) and the late Albert Hamler. She was the wife of the late Richard Kotecki, whom she married on November 27, 1954, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in New London. Their 55-year marriage served as a fine example to their family and friends of what love, commitment, and self-sacrificing Christ-like love is all about. She is survived by her loving sons, Richard David Kotecki Jr. and his wife Johanna, of Griswold, CT, Jeffrey Kotecki and his partner Pamela Porter of Mystic, CT, Greg Kotecki and his wife Deborah of New London, CT and David Kotecki and his Wife Wendy of Waterford, CT. She is also survived by a brother, Kenneth Hamler of Rhode Island, Sister-in-Law Delores "Dee" Thorp of New London, Charles Kotecki, Brother-in-Law of Ledyard, and Sister-in-Law, Virginia Hamler of New London. Nana also is survived by 9 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by three siblings: Viola Durkee, Albert Hamler, Paul Hamler. Nana loved her family and especially her sons which she loved to tell anyone within earshot that she had "four boys". Nana loved to have her family every Sunday for breakfast. This event was also always attended by family and friends where all the world's problems were identified and solved each and every Sunday. Nana loved having her sons and grandchildren and great grandchildren to her home because her life's calling was caring for her family. She was employed by the former Bureau of Better Business Practice in Waterford Connecticut for over ten years. She also was employed by Sheffield Tube Corporation in New London Connecticut. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday April 8, 2017 at 10 O'clock at Harkness Chapel on the campus of Connecticut College. Interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends on Friday evening from 5 to 8 pm at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home 12 Ocean Avenue New London.
