    Gunnery Sergeant Elia Paietta Fontecchio, U.S. Marine Corps, of Twentynine Palms, Calif., and Satellite Beach, Fla., died as the result of hostile action on Wednesday, August 4, 2004 in Al Anbar Province, Iraq. He was serving his second deployment to Iraq at the time of his death. Gunnery Sergeant Fontecchio graduated from Milford High School in Milford, Mass., and joined the Marine Corps in 1993. He was the recipient of a number of personal awards during his military career, including a Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Armed Forces Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Combat Action Ribbon and Marine Security Guard Ribbon. He is survived by his wife, Kinney, formerly of Virginia Beach, Va.; and their son, Elia; his parents, Dennis and Cindy Fontecchio, of Satellite Beach, Fla.; his twin sister, Alicia Powers, of Port St. John, Fla.; two sisters, Joslyn Mazziotti, of Cocoa Beach, Fla., and Nicole Fontecchio, of Melbourne, Fla.; his grand mother, Ann Szady, of Buzzard Bay, Mass.; and his wife?s family, Marietta Glascock, Mary Todd Glascock, Lionel Charuau, Henri Charuau and Natalie Carr, all of Virginia Beach. Family will receive visitors from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 11, at Beach Funeral Home, Indian Harbour Beach, Fla. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, August 12 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Sebastian-by-the- Sea Episcopal Church, Melbourne Beach, Fla. Interment will follow in Florida Memorial Gardens, Rockledge, Fla. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Elia Fontecchio Memorial Fund at any Navy Federal Credit Union, or via mail to NFCU, P.O. Box 3000, Merri fields, VA 22199-3000.

    Marietta Carr Glascock, 72, died October 15, 2004 in her home. Mrs. Glascock was a 1953 graduate of Westhampton College and was South Hampton Roads' first Reach to Recovery volunteer. Her successful catering business warmed the homes of many and delighted the palates of all who experienced her divine cuisine. Her wonderful mothering and grandparenting will be missed greatly by us all. She is survived by her two daughters, Mrs. Elia P. Fontecchio of Twenty Nine Palms, Calif., and Mary Todd Glascock and her husband, Lionel Charuau of Virginia Beach; her beloved grandsons, Henri Miles Charuau and Elia Ayerst Fontecchio. Other survivors include her mother, Natalie Ayerst Carr of Virginia Beach; her sister, Mrs. Thomas Cowgill Matthews of Wilson, N.C.; her brother, Dr. Albert Carr and his wife, Nancy of Augusta, Ga. Mrs. Glascock was predeceased by her daughter, Leslie Glascock Stetson; her son-in-law, Elia Paietta Fontecchio; her brother, Douglas Reed Carr; and her father, Albert Carr. A memorial service will be held Monday October 18, 2004 at 11 a.m. at St. Simon's Episcopal Church, 308 Sandbridge Road, Virginia Beach 23456, by the Rev. William Starkey. The parking lot for the church is located behind the church. Memorial donations may be made to the St. Simon's Episcopal Church or the Virginia Beach Rescue Squad, 740 Virginia Beach Blvd., Virginia Beach, Va. 23451. H.D.Oliver Funeral Apts., Laskin Road Chapel, are handling arrangements.

    Natalie Ayerst Carr, 102, of Virginia Beach, died May 20, 2005 at Windemere Nursing Home. Mrs. Carr was raised in Elkton, Md. and was a graduate of the University of Delaware. She retired from a career in social services in Petersburg, Va. and became an avid golfer in her beloved town of McKenney, Va. She is survived by her daughter, Natalie Carr Matthews of Wilson, N.C.; her son, Dr. Albert Carr and wife, Nancy of Augusta, Ga.; 13 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Mrs. Carr was predeceased by her husband, Albert Carr; her son, Douglas Carr; and her daughter, Marietta Carr Glascock. She divided her living time between her three children until the year 2000 when she moved to Windemere. She was loved and cared for there by her dear companion, Ruth Disney and assistant, Ernestine Bell. We are forever indebted to you both. With fondness and admiration, we will treasure her memories and experiences over the past 102 years. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, June 5, 2005, at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church in McKenney, Va. Memorial donations made be made to the American Cancer Society or to a charity of one's choice.
