Louis O. Thorp, 96, of Ashaway died peacefully Friday morning Dec. 29, 2006, at The Westerly Hospital. He was the husband of the late Clara (Banning) Thorp and Winifred (Banning-McCumiskey) Thorp, who passed away last year.
Louie served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He enjoyed fishing and traveling with his small house trailer. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 8152.
Louis worked for the Bostitch Co for many years before his retirement.
He is survived by his two stepchildren, Winifred Weeden of Ashaway, and Donald McCumiskey of Hope Valley. He also leaves two brothers, Raymond Thorp of Westerly and Florida and Wilton Thorp of Bolton Notch, Conn.; a sister, Florence Thorp of Westerly; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also predeceased by three brothers, Ralph Thorp and John Thorp and Walter Thorp, who died this year at the age of 100.
Funeral services will be held at his beloved Babcock Presbyterian Church, 25 Maxson St., Ashaway, on Tuesday at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Babcock Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 188, Ashaway, RI, 02804.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Buckler-Johnston Funeral Home, 121 Main St., Westerly.
