  • Notes 
    • George only went to grade 8 then worked as a guide on Lake Nipissing and in lumber camps. He went with brother Robert to Toronto to enlist in WWII and remembered that enlistees were billeted in the Horse Palace at CNE grounds.
      George was taken on strength by the Lorne Scots of Canada and went with unit to England as a driver. While serving in England he was sent on a Dispatch Rider's course, where he drove BSA, Harley, Norton and Triumph motorcycles but liked Enfields. He remembered that outings were organized for troops and went on one to Windsor Castle..
