- Homer Marshall Bailey, the son of Marshall Homer and Marie (Kromminga) Bailey, was born November 3, 1924, in Clay County, Iowa. His childhood years were spent on a farm ten miles north of Peterson, Iowa, where he received his education in country schools and later was graduated from Peterson High School. Homer joined the Army Air Force and was commissioned a 2nd Lt. Navigator during WWII until his honorable discharge.
Homer married Carol Ware on June 20, 1945, in Peterson, Iowa. They moved to Victorville, California, until January 1946, when they returned to Iowa. Homer and Carol farmed the land north of Peterson for several years until their retirement. Homer was an active member of the First Congregational Church in Peterson. He has also always been very active in community affairs: a member of the Farm Bureau, on the District 14 Board of Land of Lakes and past president of the board, on the ASC Committee, Peterson Elevator Board, First Congregational Church Board, Nominating Committee of the National Association of Congregational Christian Churches. He also was a Charter member of the Peterson Lions Club and served many years on the Royal School Board.
Homer passed away at the V.A. Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, on Sunday, April 23, 2006, at the age of 81. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Lorna Warner.
He is survived by his wife, Carol of Peterson; two sons: The Rev. Steven Bailey of Burlington, Iowa and Bryan and his wife, Gayle Bailey of Everly, Iowa; one daughter, Linda and her husband, James Walker of Truesdale, Iowa; four grandchildren: Bridget Bailey, Shawn and Sarah Walker and Shandra Cousey; one great granddaughter, Olivia Cousey; one sister: Belva and her husband, Ray Strackbein of Levittown, Pennsylvania; other relatives and many friends.
