Janet Leighton

Banning, Janet Leighton age 80, died peacefully at Shadow Mountain Care Center in Scottsdale on May 26th 2013, after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Janet was born in Rahway New Jersey, the daughter of Everett Eugene and Muriel Leighton. Janet had a passion for music and was an accomplished pianist. She was awarded a music scholarship to the University of Mary Hardin Baylor and went on to study at Mannes School of Music in New York City. From there, she went to the University of Connecticut where she completed her degree and met her husband Kent Barton Banning. Janet and Kent were married on September 8th of 1956. They had a son Mark and a daughter Jane. Janet worked as a piano teacher and later opened her own International Food and Cheese shop named LEIGHTONS. In 1979, the family relocated to Scottsdale Arizona. Janet taught music at Camelback Desert School and later worked as an assistant to the president for Warden Financial. She is survived by her son Mark, his wife Yvette, son Kent and stepchildren Andrea and Micheal.and her daughter Jane, her husband Steve and grandsons Austin and Jeffrey and her sister Audrey. She was proceeded in death by her husband Kent and sister Marilyn and brothers Fredrick and Eugene.

Janet married Kent Barton Banning on 8 Sep 1956. Kent (son of Cecil Benjamin Banning and Helen Elizabeth Richmond) was born on 21 May 1929 in New London, Connecticut, USA; died on 16 May 2004 in Scottsdale, Arizona, USA; was buried in Green Acres Memorial Park, Scottsdale, Maricopa County, Arizona, United States.
