Doris (Anderson) Hilliard, 91, of West Hartford, widow of Douglas P. Hilliard died Sunday (February 8, 2009) at Hartford Hospital. Born in Hartford daughter of the late Arvid and Minetta (Malcolm) Anderson she lived in West Hartford for most of her life. Doris along with her beloved husband Doug, owned and operated for fifty years the former Kitch-In-Vue Candy which was located in West Hartford Center. She then worked at and retired from CT Mutual. A member of the Elmwood Community Church, West Hartford, Doris is remembered as a loving, kind and compassionate wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed reading, gardening needlework, birds and visiting with family. She remained active and independent both mentally and physically and always had a smile on her face. She is survived by her children Evelyn Schroter (widow of Damon) of Joplin, MO, Beth Fontana (widow of Rene) of Tampa, FL, Russell Hilliard and his wife Mary of Lake George, NY, Lois Hilliard and her husband Michael Thompson of West Hartford, Margaret Thurston and her husband Thomas of Jacksonville, FL; her grandchildren, Jean, Donna and Scott Schroter, Corinne Smith, Andre, Daniel, Gabrielle and Patric Fontana, Adam and Andrew Hilliard, Aaron and Rachel Thompson, Shauna, Meryl, Thomas, Christopher, Dylan and Kate Thurston and ten great grandchildren. Calling hours are Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at the Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Avenue, West Hartford. Her funeral is Friday 11 a.m. at the Elmwood Community Church, 26 Newington Road, West Hartford. Burial will follow in Fountain Hill Cemetery, Deep River.
