    MILLAR, Cecil Herbert (Sgt. Ret'd), CD, BA In University of Ottawa Heart Institute on August 9, 2011 at the age of 78. Son of the late Dorothy Millar (Lough) and Walter Millar. Loving father of Douglas, Lori, Dan (Judy) and Sharron, loving grandfather of Stephen Hepburn, Alexandria Hepburn, Christopher Millar and Sean Millar. Survived by his second wife, Cecile, and predeceased by his first wife, Joan. Beloved brother of Ken Millar (Yvette), Marjorie Sharpe, Gordon Millar, Boyd Millar (Linda), Marilyn Griffith (John) and Heather Tanner (Ivan). Predeceased by brothers Keith Millar (Ingrid), John Millar (Beverly) and sister, Shirley Barnett (Darryl). Beloved stepfather to Claire Thibault and Lionel Thibault (Diane) and step-grandfather to Daniel and Stephane. Mourned by many nieces and nephews and members of extended family. Born and raised in Cumberland, Ontario, on October 3, 1933, Cecil enjoyed a lengthy military career and served his country on foreign bases in Germany and in Canada, retiring in 1973. He graduated from the University of Ottawa in 1973 with a B.A. in History and Political Science. In addition to his chosen career as a soldier, Cecil was active in municipal politics and was the Fire Chief of Cumberland Volunteer Fire Department for many years. An athlete and sports enthusiast, he shared his passion for athletics as an official in local amateur sports. He was a member and Past President of the Royal Canadian Legion and a supporter of many charities including the Ottawa Humane Society, the Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation and the Terry Fox Foundation. Cecil and his wife Cecile displayed their passion for international travel, visiting many countries in recent years. They settled in Cardinal, Ontario, where they enjoyed gardening, ship-watching, and the company of friends and family in the comfort of their country home. He will be remembered as a caring man with a strong sense of family and community values and is mourned by many friends and co-workers. The family wishes to thank the dedicated medical staff at Brockville General Hospital, Kingston General Hospital and the University of Ottawa Heart Institute for their care and support during his final days. A Memorial service will be held at St. Andrew's United Church in Cumberland, Ontario on August 16th at 11:00 a.m. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion in Morrisburg on Sunday August 21st from 2-4 p.m. "I have slipped the surly bonds of earth and danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings, Put out my hand and touched the face of God."

    Notes:

    MILLAR - Douglas ?Doug? Alexander of St. Thomas passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, January 13, 2019 at the age of 60. Missed by siblings Lori Millar of Ottawa, Dan Millar (Judy) of Stratford, and Sharron Millar of Ottawa. Uncle to Chris Millar, Sean Millar, Stephen Hepburn and Alex Cavanagh, and Alexandria Hepburn-Sweet (Dan). Doug grew up in a small town east of Ottawa where he embraced the joys of country living and developed a love for animals. He worked as a millwright and was also a licensed auto mechanic. Arrangements entrusted to the Shawn Jackson Funeral Home 31 Elgin Street, St. Thomas (519-631-0570). A memorial service will be held at a later date. If desired, donations to St Thomas Elgin Food Bank or Animal Aide would be appreciated.
