    #102 Ceylon Squadron (Tentate Et Pericite). Halifax aircraft # JN 909 was shot down at Saerbeck, Germany during operations against Berlin, Germany. Four crew members were killed, two were taken Prisoner of War and one was safe in neutral territory. Flight Sergeant Air Gunner McClay was buried in the Catholic cemetery at Saerbeck, exhumed and reburied in the Reichswald Forest War Cemetery.

    The raid of 622 aircraft (331 Lancasters, 176 Halifaxes, 106 Stirlings and 9 Mosquitoes) took off from RAF Base Pocklington, Yorkshire at 20:21 hrs on August 31, 1943. Due to cloud in the target area, difficulties with H2S equipment and the ferocity of the German defences, the raid was not successful. These all combined, caused the Pathfinder markers to be dropped well south of the centre of the target area and the main bombing area to be even further away.
    Halifax JN909 is believed to be shot down by Flak (a German aircraft-defence cannon), crashing between the communities of Sinningen and Saerbeck.

    Gertrude (Gertie) was born September 21, 1920 to Thomas and Bella McClay at Belmont, Manitoba. She passed away on November 13, 2013.
    She received her education in a country school, "Mount Hope", and finished high school in the town of Belmont. On October 25th, 1941 she married John (Jack) Kenyon. They farmed until October of 1944 and then moving to Belmont to take over a trucking business. Gertie loved sports â?? playing softball, curling, 5-pin bowling, playing cards and dancing. Her life centered around her church; she taught Sunday School and was on several boards in Belmont, Rivers and Brandon. Church and her faith in Christ were important aspects of her life. In October 1952 the family moved to Rivers for 6 years and then to Brandon in November 1958.
    Gertie was predeceased by an infant son in 1945, her father in 1968 and her mother in 1981. She also lost 4 brothers and 2 sisters: Ernest (1923), twin brother Murton (1943 during active service overseas), George (1962), Alvin (1996), Ellen (1992), Mary (2004) and Isabel (2006). Her husband Jack passed away December 28, 1991. They had celebrated 50 years of marriage. Sadly her 2 oldest sons passed away in 2010 â?? Larry in March and Jim in June.
    On May 20, 1995 Gertie married Rae Reid and she gained an extended family of step-daughters Janice (John) Jones and Marlene (Tom) Carson, 4 step-grandchildren, and 5 step-great-grandchildren. Mom felt truly lucky and blessed to have these people in her life.
    Gertie is survived by her husband Rae, her son Allen (Alys) of Winnipeg and daughter Joy (Alfred) Perro of Edmonton. She has five grandsons â?? Randy, Rick, Chris, Lance and Andy â?? and two granddaughters â?? Pam and Angela. She has 5 great grandsons and 6 great-granddaughters.
    The family appreciates the care and kindness shown to Gertie during her time at Tuxedo Villa.
    A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, November 19 at 3:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main Street at Inkster.
    Interment and graveside service will take place in Brandon in the Spring of 2014.

    ISABEL IRENE MCLOUGHRY (MCCLAY) It is with great sadness that the family of Isabel McLoughry announces her passing on April 24, 2006. Isabel was born on September 17, 1923 in Belmont, MB. She moved to Winnipeg in her early 20s where she lived until her passing. Isabel will be lovingly remembered by her daughter and son-in-law, Heather and Jim O'Leary of Victoria, sister and brother-in-law, Gertie and Rae Reid of Brandon, sister-in-law Eva McClay of Winnipeg and many nieces and nephews. Isabel was predeceased by her beloved husband Bert in 1985. Cremation has taken place. Friends and family are welcome to attend a memorial service for Isabel on Saturday, April 29 at 2:00 p.m. at Knox United Church, 400 Edmonton St. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Isabel's memory to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the charity of one's choice.     KENYON: Larry Thomas. With profound sadness, the Kenyon family announce the passing of Larry on April 19, 2010 at the Ian Anderson House in Oakville at the age of 68 after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. He will be greatly missed by his beloved wife of 46 years Pat, his sons and their wives Randy and Tammy, Richard and Pamela. His three granddaughters Nicole, Paige and Samantha will miss their Papa dearly. Survived by his mother Gertrude, brothers and their wives Jim and Lois, Allen and Alys, sister Joy and husband Al. He was predeceased by his father John in 1991. Born January 13, 1942 in Brandon, Manitoba to Gertrude and John Kenyon. Married in 1963 to Pat Watson, moved to Winnipeg in 1966 and then Oakville in 1982. Larry dedicated his working life to The Bank of Nova Scotia for 39 years, and retired as Vice President in Commercial Credit. Larry?s favorite pastime was golf which he passionately played in the US and Canada. Larry had a natural talent for pool, especially in his younger years in Brandon. Retirement was thoroughly enjoyed with cruises to Alaska, Hawaii and The Panama Canal. Stays in Florida, Palm Springs, and Arizona with friends and family were treasured and remembered. Larry?s greatest achievement was his loving family for whom he was a proud husband, father, and grandfather. They will miss him dearly. Funeral service was held at Glen Oaks Memorial Gardens, Oakville, Ontario.

    James (Jim) Kenyon With no regrets but extreme sadness, the Kenyon family announces the passing of Jim on June 16, 2010 at his home in Regina at the age of 63 from a sudden heart attack. He will be greatly missed by his beloved wife of nearly 40 years, Lois, his son Chris (and Cindy) Kenyon and their boys Sean and Liam, and his daughter Pam (and Terry) Laycock and their girls Alexa and Ella. Moved to Prince Albert in 1968 where Jim married Lois Weatherby in 1970. He worked as a draftsman for the city for 30 years. In 1998, Jim & Lois moved to Regina, where he worked for UMA/AECOM. Jim's pastimes included home improvement projects, snooker, wine-making, attending concerts and especially his season tickets to the Roughriders. Even with his quiet personality his sense of humour, generosity and faith in God were clear to those who knew him. There were many friends whom he treated like family. But he loved and was loved most as the best Husband, Dad and Grandpa in the world. Funeral service followed by reception will be held Tuesday, June 22 at 2:00 pm at Rosewood Park Church, Courtney Street (just N of Whelan Drive), Regina, SK.     GLORIA JUNE BRINE (nee DICKINSON) June 10, 1951 July 25, 2008 On July 25, 2008, Gloria June Brine passed away after a brief battle with cancer. She has been reunited with her loving mother Ellen Kathleen Dickinson. We are all so glad that her pain has ended and she is in a better place. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend to everyone that had the pleasure of being part of her life. Gloria will be sadly missed by her soul mate and best friend Joseph Brine (My Gloria) - they would have been celebrating there 30th wedding anniversary on September 2, 2008; sister Linda Miller (husband Romeo and son Earl); sons, Randy Brine (wife Mandy Brine) and Quentin Brine (girlfriend Alicia Jones) and grandchildren, Brittany and Brandyn. Gloria was a caring, wonderful person with a great sense of humour, but she also had a little bit of a wicked sense of humour and liked to play practical jokes. We wish to express our thanks to Dr. Demsus and all the doctors and nurses at the Selkirk and District General Hospital. A special thanks to R.N. Carol, who formed a special bond with Gloria. We appreciate the respect and loving care from all the staff. We also want to thank all of our relatives and friends for loving Gloria and supporting right until the end.
