    Earl Robert Dewar was born on February 22, 1915 to Harvey and Lily Dewar on the farm NE, 28, 16, 19 W3rd RM of Pittville, Hazlet, Saskatchewan. In 1920, the family moved to Blenheim, Ontario. Earl recalled his childhood years there very fondly and often spoke about his dad?s country store where he worked delivering groceries. He also recalled the hard work of hoeing tobacco and the fun of swinging from a rope into the swimming hole. When the family returned to Saskatchewan in 1928, Earl attended the one-room school at Unionville and then finished Grade 10 at the new Hazlet School. All of this time, he worked on the family farm. Earl took over the farm in 1936, when his parents moved to Creston, B.C. On July 3, 1941, he married Nora Hazlett. Earl had a life-long love of and belief in the importance of education and learning. He read constantly building on his knowledge not only to benefit his own life and personal interests but also for those around him. Truly, he could be described as a highly knowledgeable and self-educated man. He carried the goal of getting his Grade 12 for many years and almost immediately on retirement from the farm to Swift Current in 1974, Earl wrote his Grade 12 examinations. Earl was a farmer for 38 years and a very active, devoted, and respected member of the Hazlet community. He took on a leadership role in many community organizations including 25 years on the School Board. He was a founding member of the Prairie Pioneers Kiwanis Club of Swift Current and continued to be an active and valued contributor well into his 90s. Earl had many and varied interests ? reading, fishing, camping, hunting, and bridge. Earl was a prolific and accomplished painter and proudly had his worked displayed at the Swift Current art gallery and participated in a major prairie artists show at age 90. He had a prodigious memory of everything from history to the very earliest days of life on the prairies. Earl is survived by his wife, Nora; his children, Derek (Phyllis) (Hazlet, SK) and their children: Evan, Deneille, and Trent; Anne Dewar (Vancouver, BC); June (Gordon) Robinson (Victoria, BC) and their children: Mark and Megan; Janice Dewar (Edmonton, AB); Mary Ellen Dewar (Martin d?Entremont) (Calgary, AB) and their son David; by two brothers, Don (Betty) (Edmonton), Roy (Jean) (Kamloops); and his sister, Louise Marquardt (Vancouver). Earl was predeceased by his parents, Lily and Harvey; and his brother, Raymond. The family wishes to thank the staff of the Palliser Regional Care Centre for their devoted and compassionate care of Earl and the nurses, doctors, and staff of the Cyprus Regional Hospital for their sensitive care of dad and their kindness to the family. Earl was the embodiment of the best of human and personal values. He was a man of great integrity and honesty. Earl passed away on Wednesday, December 23, 2010. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends. The Funeral Service was held on Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at 2:00 pm, from the First United Church, Swift Current, SK with Elaine Little officiating. The organist for the service was Arlie Neufeld with soloist, Sharon Veer singing, ?Beautiful Isle of Somewhere?. Scripture was read from John 12:24-26, Ecclesiastes 3:1-4 and John 14:1-6. ?All Things Bright and Beautiful?, ?Great Is Thy Faithfulness? and ?Abide With Me? were sung by the congregation.. The ushers in the church were Cecil Dutton, Brian Anderson and Sandy Starkey. The Interment Service was held at the Hillcrest Cemetery, Swift Current, SK with the following serving as pallbearers, Evan Dewar, Trent Dewar, Mark Robinson, Gordon Robinson, Megan Robinson, David d?Entremont and Martin d?Entremont. In memory of Earl Dewar, donations made to the Charity of Donor?s Choice would be appreciated by the family. Funeral arrangements were in care of Swift Current Funeral Home, Swift Current, SK.

    We are sad to announce the passing of our husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather at Kamloops Seniors Village, Kamloops, BC on August 16, 2011.
    Born in Cabri, Saskatchewan, Roy spent his youth between the farm in Hazlet, Saskatchewan and Blenheim, Ontario. In the 1930?s the family moved to Creston, BC and bought an orchard.
    During WWII Roy served in the RCAP with the 422 squadron, serving two tours in Britain, including one flight into Murmansk in the Soviet Union.
    While home on leave Roy became engaged to Jean Helen Scott. They were married February 15, 1945. Roy was stationed at Patricia Bay as an instructor until the end of the war.
    After the war Roy and Jean returned to Creston to farm in Erickson. Roy was chairman of the Creston Valley Blossom Festival for two years, master of the Masonic lodge and president of the Legion twice, receiving a 65 year pin in 2009. Roy and Jean also chaperoned Teentown dances for several years.
    In 1952 Roy joined the federal civil service as an immigration officer at the Rykerts border crossing, transferring to the Vancouver airport in 1968, and moving his family to Richmond. Roy stayed with the immigration department becoming an immigration adjudicator, then an immigration appeals officer.
    After retiring the Dewars moved to Winfield for years of travelling, golf, gardening, lawn and alley bowling and enjoying time with family and friends. When the yard became too much they moved to Kelowna, and last year to Kamloops to be closer to family.
    Predeceased by his parents Harvey and Lily Dewar, and brothers Earl and Raymond. Roy is survived by his wife Jean, of 66 years; three children, Patricia Coates (Garfield) of Kamloops, Margaret (peggy) Bennison (Norman) of Big Lake and Scott Dewar of Surrey; five grandsons, Benjamin (Karl), John (Eileen) and Matthew Bennison; Andrew Coates (Michelle) and Bradley Dewar. Roy also leaves seven great-grandchildren, his sister Louise Marquardt, his brother Donald (Betty) and many nieces and nephews.
    A memorial service will be held August 26, 2011 at 2 pm at the Coates residence, 860 Lombard St., Kamloops.
    Cremation arrangements entrusted to Schoening Cremation Centre, 250 554-2429.

    A great heart has grown quiet, and we miss it more than words can say.
    Louise was the youngest of five children born to Harvey and Lillian Dewar to grow up on the farm in southern Saskatchewan. In 1935 Harvey moved them to Creston B.C. where Louise completed high school. In Vancouver in 1943 she joined the St. Paul's nursing program run by nuns with strict rules about curfews and boys. Oh, the stories! Many of the Class of '47 Nurses became very dear friends and held an annual reunion for many years. While in nursing school Louise met Bill Marquardt on a blind date. They were married in 1947 and had four children whom Louise cared for lovingly at home in Burnaby. She also helped her husband's business and worked as its bookkeeper, volunteered with the Parent Teacher Association, and devoted much time to the Imperial Order of the Daughters of the Empire (IODE), rising to be its provincial president. In later years she took up stamp collecting, crossword puzzles, weaving and world travel with Bill. She loved the giraffes of South Africa. There were always Bridge games, road trips in the camper, parties, family reunions, and so many friends! Bill and Louise spent two months every winter on Maui at their beloved Kihei Surfside and welcomed all to the family cabin on Skaha Lake, their wisest investment and the vessel of a lifetime's happy memories.
    Louise was young at heart, gracious and kind, and had a lively sense of humour. Love was what she did best. Always loving and forever loved.
    She is predeceased by her husband (2006), parents, and brothers Earl, Don, Roy and Raymond. Louise adored her kids and their spouses - Don (Trenna), Carol (Bob, deceased), John (Sandy) and Doreen (Dave) - and her 14 grandchildren, their spouses and 5 great-grandchildren.
    In lieu of flowers please consider a donation in Louise's memory to the G.F. Strong Rehabilitation Centre.
    The family wishes to thank the staff both at Harmony Court in Burnaby and Elim Village in Surrey for the excellent care they provided for their Mama Lou in her final years. A Celebration of Life will be held at Mount Pleasant Funeral Home 306 East 11th Avenue Vancouver, B.C. Thursday December 8th, 2016 from 1:00 - 4:00 P.M.

She will be missed by all.
