Arlene Steenberg

To the glory of God, Arlene, has been received to her eternal home in heaven where she is united with her husband, Alonzo Wood.
Surrounded by the love of her family, Arlene V. Wood, 92, a longtime resident of Leslie Road and Carey Cross Road, passed away Tuesday morning, November 13, 2018, at Canton-Potsdam Hospital.
Arlene was born June 26, 1926, in the Town of Stockholm, the daughter of the late Harley and Martha (Price) Steenberg and attended rural schools in Brasher.
On February 15, 1946, she married Alonzo C. Wood at the Waddington First United Methodist Church. He predeceased her on March 20, 1991.
Arlene first worked for a time at the Mica Plant and was also an inspector at the Bombay Slipper Factory for a short time. She later started in the housekeeping department at Massena Memorial Hospital, where she continued until her retirement in 1985.
Arlene was a member of the VFW and AMVETS Auxiliaries, Massena Senior Citizens, and the Highland Red Hatters. She enjoyed following NASCAR, going to Dirt Track races, camping, playing cards, knitting, fishing, and playing bingo.
After her retirement in 1985, she and her late husband enjoyed many winters in Ocala, Florida until his passing in 1991.
Arlene is survived by her children and their spouses, Kenneth R. and Elizabeth Wood of Goose Creek of South Carolina; Martha A. and William MacGregor of Brewerton; Shirley Ann Wood of Massena; Richard and Joyce Wood of Canton; and Jerry Paul Wood and his fiancé, Brenda Jock of Massena; 21 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren; and her sister, Sylvia Quenneville of Massena.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Arlene was predeceased by a daughter, Mary Caudill on October 27, 2015; her step mother, Aletha Haggett Steenberg; her sisters, Isabell Douglas and Viola Burnap; her brothers, Harley and Arthur Steenberg; and her step brothers, Gilbert ?Gibby?, Paul W., and Donald W. Collins.
Friends may call on Friday 11:00 -1:00 p.m. at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, where funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Donald Curry, officiating.
Burial will be held privately in Calvary Cemetery, Massena.
Memorial contributions may be made in her memory to the New Testament Church Memorial Fund.
