Katherine "Kay' (Armstrong) Quick, 84, died at 8:30 p.m. Friday (June 17, 2005) in the Augusta Medical Center, Fishersville.
She was born July 25, 1920 in West Augusta, the daughter the late William Burton and Lena May (Hodge) Armstrong.
Retiring on May 1, 1981 as the Financial Administrator of Western State Hospital, Kay ended 31 years of service to the Virginia Department of Mental Health and Retardation. Prior to her service at Western State Hospital, she served as the Bonding Director of W. J. Perry Insurance Corporation.
In her early childhood the family moved to Hyattsville, MD, where she was educated in the public school system. For a short time she served as Secretary to the Bethesda Realty Company. Returning to Virginia in 1947, she completed her education at Virginia Commonwealth University.
An active lay-minister with both the Methodist and Assembly of God churches, Kay taught Bible classes for 70 years. She was a member of Grace Covenant Church.
Kay was a Soroptomist of many years having served the Staunton Club as President, Treasurer, and Director. She also served the Valley Mission in Staunton as Chairman of the Board, served the Talking Book Center, and served on the Board of the Staunton Public Library.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Lawrence Boyd Armstrong (age 9); and husband, George Wesley Quick.
Family members include a son Allen Wayne Quick and his wife, Pat (Neff) Quick of Mint Spring; a granddaughter, Debbie Quick Moore and her husband, Rick of Wilmington, NC; step-grandchildren, Jeff Flint and his wife, Lora of Fishersville, Heather Flint of Fishersville, and Brandon Flint of Arlington; step-great grandchildren, Madison and Hailey Flint of Fishersville; as well as many loved Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins.
A service celebrating Kay's earthly life and her return to God will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday (June 20, 2005) in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel by the Revs. Steve Paulus and Scott Jewel. Burial will follow in the Mt. Solon Community Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Guy McManamay, Vernon McManamay, Albert Conner, Jeff Flint, Brandon Flint, and Rick Moore.
Honorary pallbearers will be A. J. Thompson and Philip Nicely.
A formal viewing is not planned. However, those desiring may pay their respects at the funeral home any time after 12 noon today.
Following the services, the family will receive friends at the home of Philip and Bonnie Nicely, 1823 Stuarts Draft Highway, Stuarts Draft.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
