DEPRESSED YOUNG MAN DIES BY OWN HAND - (2 Oct 1958)

Alex Munro, Euphemia Street was found dead outside his home on Thursday evening, October 2. His body was discovered by his wife, Doris after she heard a shot. A .35 caliber rifle was found beside him. Constable Keith Crockford, O.P.P. investigated and Coroner A. A. Metcalfe said no inquest would be held. Mr. Munro, who was 27 years age, was believed to have been depressed over losing his driver's license. He had appeared in District Magistrate's Court that morning when he was fined $100 and had his driver's license suspended for impaired driving. He worked as a Carpenter in Ottawa and drove his car to the city each day. Born in Clayton district, he was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Munro who survive. He was educated in the local school at Clayton and attended the United Church. He leaves his wife, the, former, Doris Raycroft of Darling Township; six children, Carmel, seven; Keith, six; Clark, five; Ann, four; David, two; and Sharon, eight months. Also surviving are seven sisters, Mrs. Wm. Church, Nova Scotia; Mrs. Donald Houston, Mrs. Orval Drynan, Miss Beatrice, all of Almonte and the Misses Helen, Muriel and Jean of Clayton; six brothers, Mervyn of Almonte; twins, Jackie and Jim, Douglas, Garry and Bert, all of Clayton. The funeral was held from the Comba Funeral Home on Sunday, October 5th and was largely attended. Rev. J. Ray Anderson officiated and interment was in the United Cemetery, Clayton. The pallbearers were: Gordon Stewart, Jim Campbell, Basil Munro, Orval Drynan, Leonard Barr and Clarence Raycroft.

It is with the heaviest of hearts the family of Doris Marie Munro (Raycroft) announce the passing of their mom, grandmother, and great grandmother. She passed away peacefully on Monday, October 2, 2023 at the age of 90.
Doris was the beloved wife of the late John Alexander Munro. She is survived by her sister Sarah ?Sadie? (Barr), her children Carmel (Bolger -Beck) Keith, David, Sharon (Coady), Richard ?Ricky?, Jeffrey, James ?Jimmy?, and a countless number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Doris is predeceased by her siblings Clarence and RG Raycroft, Kathleen Hoare, her son Clark, her daughter Mary-Ann ?Ann? and grandsons Mark (Coady) and Rodney (Bolger).
Her family would like to thank the entire staff at The Grove Nursing Home in Arnprior as well as Dr. Becker for the loving care provided to her these past two years. You all went above and beyond.
Private funeral services will be held Friday, October 6, 2023 at C.R. Gamble Funeral Home and Chapel Inc., 127 Church St, Almonte, ON. with viewing between 11:00am. - 1:00pm. followed by service in the chapel and interment at The Guthrie United Cemetery in Clayton. In Doris? honour donations may be made to the Diabetes Society of Canada, or The Kidney Foundation.

Dearly loved mother of Beatrice (Mrs. Art Desarmia), Mervyn, Bert, Helen (Mrs. Glen James), Jack, Jean (Mrs. Murray Smith) and Doug all of Almonte, Vera (Mrs. Bill Church) of Fredericton, N.B., and Gary of Winchester. Also survived by 1 sister Rebecca, 28 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Predeceased by 3 daughters Mrs. Flossie Houston, Mrs. Muriel Stuart and Mrs. Shirley Drynan and 2 sons Alex and James, also by 4 brothers Ernest, Roy, Irvine and Thomas and 2 sisters Flossie and Jessie. Friends called at the C.R. Gamble Funeral Home, 127 Church Street, Almonte. Service was held in the Chapel on Monday. Rev. Ted Colwell officiated. Interment Clayton United Cemetery.
