    Kenneth Lyle Mullen, 88, of Goshen, died Jan. 14, 2006, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center of natural causes.

    Kenneth was born to Lester Lee Mullen and Eva Myrtle Baldwin. His sister is Maxine Louise. He moved to South Dakota in 1919 with his parents and attended schools in Yankton and Clay Counties. He graduated from Wakonda High School in Wakonda, South Dakota, in May 1935. In July 1936, he moved to Idaho and farmed with his uncle and aunt, Tim St. John and Clara Baldwin St. John and hauled coal from Wyoming to Idaho Falls in the winters with his uncle, Harry Baldwin.

    Kenneth enlisted in the U.S. Army in September 1940 before World War II, served at Ft. Lewis, Washington, Ft. Ord, California, and at an Army Air Forces air base near Dakar, French West Africa. He was honorably discharged in June 1945 at Ft. Douglas in Salt Lake City, Utah.

    On September 21, 1941, Kenneth married Marjorie Jean Pickett at her parents house near Idaho Falls. Marjorie died in March 2004. In 1946, he started farming in the Goshen area with his parents and farmed until 1980. He worked for the Atomic Energy Commission's National Reactor Testing Station as a security patrolman. He used his carpentry skills during his retirement to build many house additions and garages in the Shelley/Firth (Idaho) area. They bought a small RV motor home and spent several winters in Overton, Nevada. Kenneth enjoyed traveling to his grandchildren's athletic events, high school and college graduations, birthdays and marriages. He was proud to be a veteran and attended Army unit reunions across the U.S. He also loved playing bridge and pinochle.

    Survivors include his sons, David (Mary) Mullen of Roy, Utah, Carlan (Joyce) Mullen of Idaho Falls and Dann (Jeanine) Mullen of Meridian (Idaho); a sister, Maxine (Alma) Robinson of Twin Falls; 8 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Kenneth was preceeded in death by his wife and two grandchildren.

    Funeral services were held on Saturday, Jan. 21, 2006, at the United Methodist Church, in Shelley, with Pastor Michael Kennedy officiating. The family visited with friends from 11:30 a.m. to 12:40 p.m. Saturday at the church. Burial is in the Fielding Memorial Park, and military rites were provided by the Bonneville County Veterans Team. Arrangements were under the direction of Nalder Funeral Home in Shelley, Idaho.

    Marjorie Jean Pickett Mullen was born to Ernest David Pickett and Sylvia Iola Mace. Her younger sister and brother were Helen Irene (Reed), and Rulon Dale. The family lived on a farm in the New Sweden/Riverdale area of Bonneville County on the southwest corner of Peterson Road and Faust Road. She attended elementary school at the Riverdale School and graduated from high school at Shelley High School in Shelley, Bingham County, Idaho in 1938.

    Marjorie met Kenneth Lyle Mullen and dated for a couple of years. Kenneth joined the Army in 1940 and they were married on September 21, 1941 in her parent's house. Marjorie and Kenneth traveled to Kenneth's Army post at Fort Lewis, Washington, and eventually on to Fort Ord, California. World War II started and Kenneth went overseas to Dakar, French West Africa for the duration of the war. Marjorie had a son, David Lee, born while Kenneth was on a troop transport in the Atlantic Ocean. Kenneth returned after the war and they had another son, Carlan Kay. Marjorie and Kenneth built a house on Kenneth's parent's farm in 1947 in the Goshen, Bingham County, Idaho area. A last son, Dann E. (middle initial "E." only), was born to them. Marjorie and Kenneth continued to live in that home until her death. Marjorie loved playing bridge and pinochle, and was in several card clubs. Cause of death is believed to be a heart attack as no autopsy was performed.

    Lester Lee Mullen was born to Clark Albert Mullen and Sarah Augusta Newman in Pilot Grove Township, Montgomery County, Iowa. His brothers and sisters were Florence Lucinda (Shumate), Guy Edgar, Charles Raymond, Phillip Merriss, Howard Ralph, Harold Merritt, Grace Evelyn (Bennett), Lena May (Cheesman) and Loyd Albert. Howard and Lester were not identical twins. He was raised in Montgomery County,Iowa and moved to Kit Carson County, Colorado with his family in 1906. He attended school through the 8th grade. The family moved to Jewell County, Kansas in 1906.

    Lester married Eva Myrtle Baldwin on 5 Aug 1915 in Smith Center, Smith County, Kansas. They had two children, Kenneth Lyle Mullen and Maxine Louise Mullen. Lester, Eva and Kenneth moved to South Dakota to a rented farm northwest of Wakonda, Clay County in the late 1910s. Lester worked as a farm laborer. They then moved to Idaho in November 1936; first on rented land in the Grant area north of Idaho Falls in Bonneville County and then purchasing an 160 acre farm in the Goshen area southeast of Shelley in Bingham County. Lester and Eva lived and farmed there with Kenneth, his wife, Marjorie, and their three sons until Lester's death from a heart attack on January 13, 1973 while visiting Maxine and her husband, Alma Robinson, in Soda Springs, Caribou County, Idaho.

    Lester married Eva Myrtle Baldwin on 5 Aug 1915 in Smith Center, Kansas, USA.     Eva was born to William Elias Baldwin and Eva Katherine Bigsby in a now non-existant town called Salem near Mankato, Jewell County, Kansas. Her brothers and sisters were Clara Etta (St. John), John Bert, Edna, Maude May, Emma, Guyneth, Edward, Harry Albert, Glen, Ida Lenora (Frydendall), Laura Katherine, and Fred. Her step-brothers and step-sister from her father's first marriage to Bridget Biddy Sullivan were Charles William, Stella Ann (Beam), and Frank.

    Eva was raised in Salem and married Lester Lee Mullen on Aug 5, 1915 in Smith Center, Smith County, Kansas. They had two children, Kenneth Lyle Mullen born in Jewell County, Kansas and Maxine Louise Mullen born in Clay County, South Dakota. Lester and Eva moved to Idaho in November 1936. They first rented a farm in the Grant area north of Idaho Falls, Bonneville County and then purchased an 160 acre farm in the Goshen, Bingham County, Idaho area with Kenneth, his wife, Marjorie (Pickett) and their three sons until the late 1970s after Lester's death in 1973. Eva moved to Soda Springs, Caribou County, Idaho in 1980 to be live near Maxine and her husband Alma Robinson. She died from liver cancer in Idaho Falls, Bonneville County, Idaho on August 29, 1984.
