GRANDFIELD -- Funeral for Glen William Hargis, 86, Grandfield, will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Gray Funeral Home Chapel, Grandfield, with the Rev. David Gardner, minister, First United Methodist Church, and Dr. Bob Burch, pastor, First Baptist Church, Grandfield, officiating.
Burial will be in Grandfield Memorial Cemetery.
He was born Oct. 10, 1921, in Grandfield, to Luther and Mattie Bolton Hargis. He graduated from Grandfield High School with the Class of 1939. He entered the U.S. Army on Nov. 7, 1942, where he served in the Air Corps during World War II. He also served in Maxton, N.C., for the Glider Pilots during the invasion in Europe, and in Okinawa. He was honorably discharged on Feb. 12, 1946. He married Viola McCafferty on Feb. 14, 1948, in Wichita Falls, Texas. He was a farmer and rancher, and a member of First Baptist Church in Grandfield. He served as board of director's president for Co-op Services Inc. in Grandfield, Chattanooga and Lawton.
Survivors include his wife, of the home; two sons and a daughter-in-law: Ronald and Pat, Yukon; and Ray, Wichita Falls, Texas; four grandsons: Michael and wife Rochelle, Frisco, Texas; Joshua and wife Tish, Evadale, Texas; Tyler, Yukon; and Marshall, Weatherford, Okla.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son; a grandson, Jason; and a brother, Leroy.

Glen married Viola Mae McCafferty on 14 Feb 1948 in Wichita Falls, Texas, USA. Viola (daughter of Sam Dietus McCafferty and Ida Elizabeth Banning) was born on 17 Feb 1929 in Lexington, Oklahoma, USA; died on 23 Jan 2016 in Wichita Falls, Texas, USA; was buried in Grandfield Memorial Cemetery, Grandfield, Tillman County, Oklahoma, United States. Funeral service for Viola Mae Hargis, 86, of Wichita Falls, Texas, and formerly of Grandfield, Oklahoma, will be at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, January 27, 2016, at Gray Funeral Home Chapel, Grandfield, Oklahoma, with Rev. Micky Miller, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating.
Mrs. Hargis passed away on January 23, 2016, in Wichita Falls, Texas.
Burial will be at Grandfield Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Gray Funeral Home.
Viola was born on February 17, 1929, in Lexington, Oklahoma, to Sam D. and Ida E. (Banning) McCafferty. She grew up in Paoli and later moved to Burkburnett, TX, where she graduated from Burkburnett High School. She married Glen William Hargis on February 14, 1948. They were married for 60 years and lived their entire married life in Grandfield. She worked for Tomlinson's, Kirkland's Department Store, and Robbie's Hallmark. Viola enjoyed traveling with her husband and was very devoted to her family. She loved spending time with her grandsons. Viola attended First Baptist Church in Grandfield.
She is survived by her sons and daughter in law, Ronnie and Pat Hargis of Yukon, OK, and Ray Hargis of Wichita Falls, TX; her grandsons and their wives, Michael and Rochelle Hargis of Minneapolis, MN, Joshua Hargis and Tyler Hargis, both of Yukon, OK, and Marshall and Ashley Hargis of Weatherford, OK; and her great grandchildren Jolie Hargis, Max Hargis, Hunter Hargis, and Sam Hargis.
Viola is preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Ida (Banning) McCafferty; her husband, Glen Hargis; an infant son in 1949; and a grandson, Jason Hargis in 1977.

Sam married Ida Elizabeth Banning in Sep 1922 in McCurtain County, Oklahoma, USA. Ida (daughter of James C. Banning and Mary Elizabeth Spates) was born on 29 Aug 1904 in Saratoga, Arkansas, USA; died on 13 Jul 1996 in Grandfield, Oklahoma, USA; was buried in Grandfield Memorial Cemetery, Grandfield, Tillman County, Oklahoma, United States. Family of James & Mary Banning moved from Arkansas to Washington in early 1900, between the time daughter Nora was born in Dec 1899 and the date of the US Census in 1900.
