He was a former member of the Essex Fire Department. He retired from R.R. Donnelley's & Sons, Old Saybrook, after 30 years. He was the owner of American Heritage Antiques in Essex.
He is survived by his mother, Kathryn Lee Banning of Essex; two sons, Darren Banning of Richmond, Va., and Steve Bogan of Essex; a daughter, Autumn Banning of Manning, S.C.; a brother, Dennis Banning of Hartland, Vt.; and four grandchildren.
Calling hours are at the Robinson, Wright & Weymer Funeral Home, 34 Main St., Centerbrook, Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. Graveside service will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. in Centerbrook Cemetery. Kathryn Viola Lee Banning of Blake Street, of the Ivoryton section of Essex, died Saturday at Middlesex Hospital. She was 90.
She was born in Deep River and lived in Ivoryton for 50 years.
She is survived by a son, Dennis W. Banning of Hartland, Vt.; two brothers, Robert Lee of Deep River and George Lee of Killingworth; a sister, Ruby Walden of the Centerbrook section of Essex; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Her husband, Fred Banning Sr., died previously.
A private funeral and burial will be in Centerbrook Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Donations may be made to Essex Ambulance Association, P.O. Mrs. Ida Platt Banning, 94, of Chestnut Street, Ivoryton, widow of William Otis Banning, died Tuesday in Meadowbrook Convalescent Home in Middetown after a long illness. Born in Westbrook, she lived in Ivoryton the last 73 years. She was a member of the Westbrook Congregational Church.
She leaves two sons; Everett Banning and Fred Banning, both of Ivoryton; and two daughters, Mrs. Nellie Riggio and Mrs. Harold Duffy, both of Ivoryton; seven grandchildren. A private funeral will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in the Cypress Cemetery, Westbrook. There are no calling hours. Robinson and Wright Funeral Home, Main Street, Centerbrook, is making the arrangements.
