    Alice M. Kane, 83, Spearfish, died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010, at Dorsett Regional Senior Care in Spearfish.
    Christian vigil services were at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 7, 2010, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Spearfish. Mass of Christian Burial was at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 8, 2010, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Spearfish with the Rev. Tim Hoag as celebrant. Burial was at Black Hills National Cemetery.
    Alice was born Oct. 15, 1926, to Hoyt and Sarah (Cavin) Gartley in Harding County. She moved with her family to Butte County for a few years before returning to Harding County, where she attended school and graduated from Harding County High School in Buffalo. Alice then attended Black Hills State Teachers College and received a bachelor?s degree in education. She married Doyle ?Jack? Kirkpatrick in 1948. The couple later divorced. Alice taught school in Harding County, Belle Fourche and Spearfish, retiring after 38 years. She was awarded ?Outstanding Social Studies Teacher of the Year? in 1983. Alice married Joe Kane in the early 1980s. The couple made their home in Spearfish. Alice was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, V.F.W. Auxiliary, Delta Kappa Gamma and Modern Mothers Club.
    Survivors include her husband, Joseph "Joe" Kane, Spearfish; two daughters, Sharon (Paul) Kirkpatrick-Sanchez, Whitewood, and Jean Kay Kane, New Jersey; step-son, Dick Kane, Delaware; brother, William (Sue) Gartley, Michigan; step-brother, Forrest (Patti) Giannonatti, Minnesota; step-sister, Bub Jackson, Minnesota; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
    She was preceded in death by her parents and one step-son, Ron Kane.
    In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to benefit St. Joseph Catholic Church in Spearfish.
    Arrangements are under the care of Fidler-Isburg Funeral Chapels & Crematory Service of Spearfish.
