Lena Raycroft

The community was saddened recently at the news that Delmer Raycroft had passed away suddenly at his home Clayton, Ontario, on Sunday, November 25th, 1973. He was in his 59th year. Robert Delmer Raycroft was born on January 1st, 1913, in a Darling Township community then known as Raycroft, Ontario, a son of the late Robert Raycroft and his wife, the late Anna Miller. He received his education at S.S. No. 6, Darling, and later turned to farming, a vocation he perused all his life. More recently he had been a school bus operator as well. On October 18, 1939, he married the former Maud McKay at Carleton Place and resided in the Clayton area where he attended St Peter's United Church at Tatlock. Surviving besides his wife are three sons, Harvey, R.R. 1, Carp; Laurie, Lanark and Bryan of Toronto and two daughters, Dorothy (Mrs. Phillip Borrowman), Arnprior and Wenda at home. Also surviving are brothers George, R.R. 2, Clayton and Melville of Clayton and a sister, Mrs. Laura Boggis of Carleton Place. Funeral services for Mr. Raycroft were held from the Comba Funeral Home, Church St., Almonte, on Wednesday, November 28th, at 2 p.m. with interment at Clayton United Cemetery. Rev. Gordon C. Smyth conducted the services. Pallbearers were Welly Ray- (no more).

Robert married Ann Maud McKay on 18 Oct 1939 in Carleton Place, Ontario, Canada. Ann (daughter of Arthur McKay and Clara Vina Craig) was born in 1921 in Ontario, Canada; died on 27 Jan 2000 in Almonte, Ontario, Canada; was buried in Clayton United Cemetery, Clayton, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada. RAYCROFT, Maud Ann - In hospital at Almonte on Thursday, January 27, 2000. Maud McKay of Middleville, formerly of Darling Township, age 78 years. Beloved wife of the late Delmer Raycroft. Dearly loved mother of Harvey (Joan) of Carp, Laurie (Joyce) of Lanark, Bryan (Irene) and Dorothy Borrowman (Philip) both of Middleville and Wenda Wheeler (Doug) of Snow Road. Predeceased by her 2 daughters Ruth and Lena. Sister of Mrs. Lena Weir (Lyle), Alex (Eva) and Charlie. Predeceased by a grandson Brad and a granddaughter Sherry-Lynn and by 2 sisters Mrs. Edna Mains and Ethel. Also survived by 11 grandchildren Curt, Cynthia Megan, Mark, Janey, Adrian, Anthony, Jennifer, Michael, Ashley and Matthew. Friends called at the C.R. GAMBLE, FUNERAL HOME & CHAPEL, 127 Church Street, Almonte for visiting on Sunday until time of Service at 3pm. The Service was completed in the Chapel. Spring interment Guthrie United Cemetery, Clayton. Donations in memory of Maud may be made to the Almonte General Hospital and would be greatly appreciated by her family.
