David E. Moore Follows Wife to Sepulcher Within Year.
Death, within a year after the passing of his wife, last Monday called David E. Moore, one of Chino's most loved pioneers, to his final rest at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ralph C. Homan. Mr. Moore had not been well for more than a year and the death of his helpmate for 61 years during the early part of this year created in him the spirit of restlessness and an unwillingness to combat the final summons longer. His death was not unforeseen then when he took ill again a few days before his demise.
Mr. Moore was a native of New York, born April 24, 1850, and at the age of two years went with his parents to Iowa where the family farmed. He grew to young manhood in that state and on March 14, 1871, was married to Mercy Malora Banning at what is now Preston, Jackson county, Iowa. Herre the couple lived until the fall of that year when Mr. Moore disposed of his blacksmith business and moved to Green county, Iowa, where he engaged in farming until 1873. In that year he sold his Iowa farm and joined his brother in a westward trek to Kansas, homesteading in Smith county. Grasshoppers and drought caused them to forsake the homestead and they purchased 160 acres in Phillips county, near what is now the town of Kerwin. On this place the family remained for 17 years, selling out in 1892 and coming to California.
The first two years after coming to this state were spent in Pomona but with the opening of the sugar factory here for its second season, Mr. and Mrs. Moore moved with their family to Chino. This city has since been their home, the family circle being broken by the death of Mrs. Moore last May.
To Mr. and Mrs. Moore were born four children: Herbert, who died in infancy; Walter M. of Laguna Beach, Don E. and Mrs. Alma Moore Homan of Chino. The three children and five grand-children survive.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon from the M. E. church, Rev. Elmer S. Andersen officiating. Burial was in Pomona cemetery. Glenn A. Henry of Richardson & Henry Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements."
