    REVEREND EARL J. BANNING went to be with his Lord and Savior on October 7, 2010. He was 80 years old.Born in California but reared on a cattle ranch in South Texas, he entered military service after high school, serving during the Korean War as a combat medic. After the war, he attended Southwestern Assemblies of God college where he married Joyce Fisher and became an ordained minister. Pastor Banning later earned bachelors and masters degrees in psychology, sociology, and counseling psychology in California. He and Joyce served faithfully in several churches before coming to Braeswood Assembly of God in 1970. The small church grew under Pastor Banning's leadership and became one of Houston's most prominent international congregations. He was the senior pastor at Braeswood Church for 30 years, and the Co-Pastor for 9 years and pastor emeritus for the past year. In addition, Pastor Banning served as General Presbyter of the Assemblies of God and Assistant Superintendent and Executive Presbyter for the South Texas District of the Assemblies of God. He was well known for his radio program, Life Worth Living, and he provided a late night devotional on KPRC-TV for many years. He was a visiting lecturer on Christian psychology and church growth in more than 25 countries, including Europe, Asia, Latin America and Africa.Earl Banning now waits in heaven along with his wife Joyce for son Steve and his wife Donna, daughter Susan and her husband David, and daughter Lori and her husband John. Earl is also survived by two sisters, Martha and Ruby; his grandchildren James, Tiffany, John, Jessica and Donovan; and great grandchildren Kaleb, Angelina and Luke. In his more than 50 years of ministry, pastor and counseling psychologist Earl Banning preached thousands of sermons and touched many more lives. His flock will always remember him for his strength of conviction, his well-worn Bible, his sense of humor, the stories of life in South Texas and those powerful invitations delivered on behalf of the Savior. The last of 10 children, his mother called him a "tithe for the Lord." And so he was. On his pulpit for many years was a small sign viewable only to him and those facing the congregation. It read: "Sir, we would see Jesus." Through Earl Banning's life and example, that is what we saw. Welcome home, good and faithful servant. Welcome home.Family will receive friends at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, October 14, 2010 at Braeswood Assembly of God Church, 10611 Fondren, Houston, Texas 77096 where the funeral service will begin at 7:00 p.m. Graveside service for Mr. Banning will be conducted 10:30 a.m. Friday at Houston National Cemetery.

    JOYCE D. BANNING went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, February 6, 2010. Her bright smile, wise counsel, and steadfast faith will be remembered by the thousands of people she touched while serving in Christian ministry. Joyce is survived by her husband, the Rev. Earl J. Banning, son the Rev. Steve Banning, daughters Susan Webster and Lori Moon and their spouses. She is also survived by her sister Bonnie, brother Stan, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.A visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, February 11, 2010 at Braeswood Assembly of God Church, 10611 Fondren, Houston, TX. Service will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, February 12, 2010 at Braeswood Assembly of God followed by a private Interment at Houston National Cemetery.
