Elizabeth Mae Hughs

Notes:

Elizabeth was born on Grand Avenue in Louisville, Kentucky, in 1901. The entire Hughs family got on a train around 1905 and moved to California. Elizabeth was the daughter of Harry Simpson Hughs and Ruth Mae Beckwith and the sister of Ellen Abdill Hughs and Marian Mignon Hughs Moran. She first married Leonidas Oren Beckwith (no relation to her mother) by which she had 4 children, Harry Seymour, Doris Mae, Marian Elizabeth and Leon Oren. Her husband left her during the depression and on January 6, 1934 she married Aricibald Denver Gibson. Her children all adored him and always considered him their father. Before her marriage to Arch she was a single Mother who raised her 4 children by working 2 full time jobs plus made artificial flowers that her kids sold door to door. That eventually turned in to a job with the studios because her flowers and plants were so realistic, they could decorate the sets and wouldn't melt under the lights. This was before they could use air conditioning due to the noise. She worked on the sets of most of the big stars of her day. She was a business partner in a flower shop on Sunset Blvd with Lucille Ball's mother , Desiree. She was a good and decent woman, hard working and beloved by all who knew her. My "Good Grandma" I still miss you so much. She died at the age of 49 in Glendale, California of cancer.

Elizabeth married Leonadis Oren Beckwith in 1918. Leonadis (son of Horatio Seymour Beckwith and Mabel Grace Brown) was born on 23 May 1899 in Los Angeles, California, USA; died on 28 Nov 1969 in Pendleton, Oregon, USA; was buried in Olney Cemetery, Pendleton, Umatilla County, Oregon, United States. 2. Doris Mae Beckwith was born on 20 Jan 1922 in Bakersfield, California, USA; died on 9 Jan 2017 in Gerber, California, USA; was buried in Tehama Cemetery, Tehama, Tehama County, California, United States.
3. Marian Elizabeth Beckwith was born on 6 Mar 1923 in Los Angeles, California, USA; died on 14 Jul 1979 in Napanoch, New York, USA; was buried in Fantinekill Cemetery, Ellenville, Ulster County, New York, USA.
4. Leon Oren Beckwith was born on 11 Mar 1926 in Los Angeles, California, USA; died on 26 Jan 1988 in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA.

Elizabeth married Archibald Denver Gibson on 6 Jan 1934. Archibald was born on 23 Mar 1906 in New Mexico, USA; died on 6 Jan 1984 in California, USA; was buried in Santa Maria Cemetery District, Santa Maria, Santa Barbara County, California, United States. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
