    Notes:

    Charles Perry was a Conservative member of the 1st Canadian Parliament representing Peterborough West.

    He entered the timber trade, purchasing land in the Peterborough area and building a large sawmill on the current site of Trent University in 1854. Charles Perry served as mayor of Peterborough in 1853 and from 1861 to 1865. He was an unsuccessful candidate for a seat in the legislative assembly for the Province of Canada in a by-election held in 1864. Perry was a customs collector at Peterborough from 1873 to 1876 and died in Peterborough in the latter year.

  1. 4.  Ebenezer Perry was born on 29 Sep 1788 in Loyalist Township, Ontario, Canada (son of Robert Perry and Jemima Gary Washburn); died on 1 May 1876 in Cobourg, Ontario, Canada.

    Notes:

    Ebenezer Perry was a merchant and Canadian political figure. He was a Conservative member of the Senate of Canada from 1871 until his death and at the age of 83, the oldest person ever summoned to the Senate.

    Ebenezer served in the militia during the War of 1812 and moved to Cobourg in 1815. He built a grist mill there, later known as Pratt's Mill or just "The Mill. He built the regency styled Woodlawn in 1835, known today as The Woodlawn Inn. While living at The Woodlawn, Mr. Perry actively lobbied for the incorporation of the Town of Cobourg and served as the first president of the town?s board of police. He was also a member of the Legislative Council of the Province of Canada, serving from 1855 until Confederation.

    The Honourable Ebenezer Perry was appointed to the Canadian Senate on the advice of Prime Minister Sir John A. Macdonald. He served as an Ontario Conservative in the Senate from February 2, 1871 to May 5, 1876.
