    It is with great sadness the family of Joan Vida McNeill announce her peaceful passing on March 22, 2021 at the age of 85.
    She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Greg (Connie), Marlene (Dale) Amundson, Jody (Susan), Bernie McNeill, and Tammy (John) Kupilik; grandchildren Cam (Jennifer) McNeill, Kirsten (Jamie) Goddard, Alexis McNeill, Dean (Jessica) Amundson, Darin (Danielle) Amundson, Jeff (Jennifer) Amundson, Megan (Barrett) Jarosch, David McNeill, Mark (Madison) McNeill, Ashley (Mark) McNeill-Dorado, Trisha (Derek) Matter, Scott (Taylor) McNeill, Nicole McNeill (Tyler Cox), Taylor, Austin and Jaelyn Kupilik; great grandchildren, Cooper, Keenan, Allison, Fletcher, Quentin, Kyde, Kyna, Tristan, Rhys, Brynlee, Caden, Scotlynn, Asher, Karter, Trew, Adelyn; sister Donna (Wilby) Klimack and by many other nieces, nephews, friends and her beloved dog Abby.
    Joan was predeceased by her beloved husband Patrick, her parents, Melvin and Eleanor Spratt, her brother Bud and sister-in-law and Marjorie Spratt, her sister Ruby and brother-in-law Jack Schram.
    Joan was born in Elgin, Manitoba on February 6th, 1936, as a young lady the family moved to Brandon Manitoba where she continued in her schooling and was a participant in several sports and became a pitcher in softball at a high level. In 1953 she married Patrick (Pat) McNeill; in the mid 50?s Dad joined the PPCLI and they moved to Victoria B.C. for 6 years. When dad left the Army in the early 1960?s we moved to the land of promise in Edmonton.
    Over the years Mom spent many years working at Woodward?s and looking after the family. When she retired, she jumped at the opportunity to support the Cross-Cancer Hospital as a volunteer for many years where she loved to go and meet other volunteers and patients. Mom was always surrounded by her family and she loved everyone with equal attention and caring, she always had an interest in what we were doing and had great pride in our accomplishments. We will miss her deeply.
    In lieu of flowers, friends wishing to remember Joan are encouraged to make a donation, in her memory to the Centre for Autism, Edmonton at centreforautism.ab.ca
    A Visitation will take place at Connelly-McKinley Edmonton South (4820 Meridian Street NW) from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm on Monday, March 29. Masks are required for entry into the building. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, March 30th, also at Connelly-McKinley Edmonton South. Interment to follow at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery. Due to Covid-19 protocols, the service is limited to immediate family members only. Those wishing to view the service can do so by clicking on the link at the top of this obituary.

    MELVYN SPRATT Melvyn Spratt died December 21, 2001 after a weeks stay at the Brandon Regional Health Centre. He had celebrated his 95th birthday November 25, 2001. Mel was born at Elgin, MB in 1906. He farmed with his father and took an active part in community affairs playing baseball and hockey. He enjoyed grooming and driving his horses. Mel met his wife Eleanor Sloan when she moved from Winnipeg to Elgin to teach school. She and Mel were married and raised a son and three daughters. When the children finished their education, they moved to Brandon. Mel worked at Lee Implements, Brandon Hardware and Box Brothers Hardware on 10th Street. He made many friends during these years at work. He appreciated the gifts that Mother Nature provided - growing a garden, caring for his flowers and fruit trees and feeding the wild birds. Mel always had a dog. He made sure the dogs were trained and obedient. He will be remembered for the love he had for Bear - his last little dog, whose ashes were buried with him. Mel was very proud of his family and kept in touch with each one of them. They, in turn, loved Dad, Grandpa and Great-Grandpa. He had many nieces and nephews. There was always a car in his driveway. Mel lived life to the fullest and, as he aged, he accepted the limitations of his activities. He was a wonderful father, neighbour and friend who will be very much missed. Mel is survived by his children, Bud (Marj) of Portage, Donna (Wilbie) of Inglis, Ruby (Jack) of Ottawa and Joan (Pat) of Edmonton and their children. He was predeceased by his wife Eleanor; his brothers, George who was killed in the Second World War, and Willard; and his sisters, Pearl, Ruby, Kathleen and Nettie. Funeral service was held at the Brockie Donovan Chapel on Wednesday, January 2, 2002 with Rev. John van Vliet officiating. Interment followed in Elgin Cemetery. Pallbearers were grandsons, Randy Munro, Greg and Jody McNiell, Cal Spratt, great-grandson Ryan Spratt and granddaughter Tammie Millar. Donations, if desired, in memory of Mel, may be made to a charity of choice. Arrangements were in care of Brockie Donovan, Brandon.
