John I. Orme, 63, of the Maitland area and formerly of Kingston, who died recently at Kingston's Hotel Dieu Hospital following a two months illness, was cremated at Cataraqui.
He was born at Berkshire, England, a son of the late John Leslie Orme and his wife, the former Mary Lillian Williams, but came to Canada at an early age and settled in the Kingston area.
At age 16, he joined the armed forces and was stationed in different parts of Canada during the war, serving at Petawawa and Kingston. He also served in the United Kingdom, Italy, France and northwest Europe whille on active duty from 1940 to 1946.
Mr. Orme, who became a prisoner of war in Germany, was at one time stationed in Brockville with the Royal Canadian Regiment, returning with the RCRs to Kingston until his discharge in 1976.
Later, he became assistant curator at' the Sir John A. Macdonald House at Kingston before assuming the post, on a part -time basis, of a security officer at the Black and Decker plant in Brockville.
Mr. Orme was a Shriner and member of Tunis Temple and the Masonic Order, St. James Lodge No. 253, Kingston, and the Ancient Frontenac and Cataraqui Chapter, also Minden Masonic Lodge No. 253, and the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite.
He was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Brockville Branch No. 96.
Beside his wife, the former Wilda Christie Dunleavy, whom he married in 1981, he is survived by two daughters from a previous marriage, Sharon O'Cleireachain, Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Carol Anne Orser, Napanee, and several grandchildren, including Crystal Leeder, Maitland, and a brother, Carl Alex Orme, who resides in British Columbia.
