Tom worked for the CNR until retirement and was the oldest member of the ANAF # 283. We will all miss him for his creative mind and all his help. | 705 | | Thomas Field Thomas W. Field, a Greenfield native and resident of Northfield, Maine, passed on Dec. 8, 2013 in Northfield. He was 89 years old. He was born in Greenfield, Nov. 17, 1924, the son of Harold and Florence (Zschau) Field. A 1943 graduate of Deerfield Academy and a veteran of the Pacific Theater in World War II, he studied engineering at the University of Massachusetts and spent his working career as a civil engineer and survey supervisor for the Massachusetts Department of Public Works. He was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, the former Harriet Smith of Millers Falls, and a grandson, Christopher Mascavage of Greenfield. He is survived by his three children, Suzanne Hamilton and her husband, Bill, of Arlington, MA, Thomas R. and his wife Rebecca of South Pasadena, CA, and Lorrie Mascavage of Greenfield, MA; four granddaughters and a great-granddaughter. | 708 | | Thomas Krikawa Thomas M. Krikawa, 48, of Windsor, beloved husband of Linda (Banning) Krikawa, passed peacefully to his eternal home, on Wednesday, (August 8, 2007) after a courageous battle with brain cancer. Tom was born in Brookhaven, NY on August 16, 1958, son of Joseph and Virginia (Bell) Krikawa of Tucson, AZ. Tom lived in various places during his early life, including Long Island, NY, Missouri, Illinois, New Jersey and Colorado. In 1974, his family moved to West Hartford, where he graduated from Conard High School, class of 1976; during these two years Tom made cherished and lasting friendships. In 1976 Tom continued his education at the University of Vermont, majoring in mathematics. He was an avid member of Sigma Nu Fraternity, where he developed many wonderful memories. Upon graduating from UVM in 1980, he moved to Houston, Texas to complete a systems analyst training program for his first position at Combustion Engineering in Windsor. Tom was promoted within the company during his career, his last position that of Director of Information Technology. Tom held the company, and those with whom he worked, in the highest regard. During his early career, he also pursued an MBA at the Hartford Graduate Center/ R.P.I. Throughout his lifetime, Tom enjoyed various pastimes. During his early school years he developed a love of nature and reading. During his two years at Conard, he became an accomplished wrestler, member of the track and field team and cross country teams. After marrying Linda, his wife of 20 years, in 1987, Tom most enjoyed spending time with his family. The focus of his life was his wife and children, Katie and Connor, nurturing their interests in nature (while at Northwest Park or visiting Vermont), soccer, cross country, music and in a general love of learning. Tom was an assistant coach for his children's soccer teams, and served on the board and as a Director for the Windsor Soccer Club. Cherished family memories included annual vacations spent in New Hampshire and at the beach in Ogunquit, Maine. In his adult life, Tom most enjoyed going to his children's sports events, coaching, playing golf, fishing and following his favorite sports teams, the New York Giants and the New York Mets. Tom was an active member of St. Joseph's parish and practiced his faith daily in his interactions with those around him. Besides his parents and his wife, he leaves a daughter, Katherine E. "Katie" Krikawa; a son, Connor J. Krikawa , four brothers, Edward Krikawa and his wife Margaret of Washington, James Krikawa of Arizona, John Krikawa and his wife Lisa of Arizona, and Andrew Krikawa and his wife Jennifer of Washington; five sisters, Anne Mazella and her husband Shawn of Windsor, Jeanne Krikawa and her husband Lowell Knapp of Washington, Mary Fontes of Arizona, Patricia House of Arizona, and Maureen Harris and her husband James of Florida; his loving father-in-law and mother-in-law, Irving and Alice Banning of South Newfane, VT; a sister-in-law, Kathleen Beeman and her husband Barry, of Brattleboro, VT., two brothers-in-law, Kevin Banning and his wife Janice of Enfield, and William Banning and his wife Gina of Manchester. He also leaves behind many beloved nieces and nephews. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, August 16, 10 a.m., at St. Joseph Church, 1747 Poquonock Ave., in the Poquonock section of Windsor. Burial will follow at Elm Grove Cemetery, Poquonock. His family will receive friends on Wednesday, August 15, 4-8 p.m., at the Carmon Windsor Funeral Home, 807 Bloomfield Ave., Windsor. During this time, friends may share reflections on Tom's life beginning at 7 p.m. following a short prayer service. | 709 | | Thomas McCarthy Thomas Patrick McCarthy, 80, of Gallup Hill Road, passed away Dec. 29, 2009, at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital. He was born March 28, 1929, in New London, the son of the late Arthur and Elizabeth (Maloney) McCarthy. He married Beverly Phelps on Jan. 31, 1959, in Ledyard. He served in the U.S. Army and the National Guard for eight years. He was employed as a crane operator for Whaling City Dredge & Dock and worked as a mechanic for New London Buick Co. He also worked as the caretaker of the Sergio Franchi estate. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He always placed his family first. He was a very generous and giving man who will be sadly missed by all. In addition to Beverly, his loving and devoted wife of 50 years, he survived by his children, Maureen Lee and husband, Jack, of Anacortes, Wash., Kristin Morosky and husband, Jim, of Montville; brother, Jack McCarthy of New London; grandchildren, Hillary Waadevig and husband, Josh, Travis Lee, and Rachel Zuppe; and by great-grandchild, Hayden Waadevig. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Arthur and Robert McCarthy. A celebration of Thomas' life will be private and at the convenience of the family. | 710 | | Thomas McClelland Thomas E. McClelland, 95, passed away September 13, 2012 in Olympia, Wash. He was born on August 2, 1917 in Auburn, New York, to Thomas E. and Atha F. (Fitzgerald) McClelland. Tom was the second of three children. At the age of two, Tom moved to Dallas, Oregon. When he was 16, he left home for San Francisco and worked as a theater usher and put himself through high school. After high school, he attended college where he studied engineering. In 1937, while in San Francisco, he married the love of his life, Alda Faye Carson. They then moved to Vancouver, Washington. During WWII, he worked at the Kaiser Corporation ship yards and was promoted to lead engineer for aircraft carrier hull design in New York. He later served as Director of Urban Renewal in Vancouver, Washington and in Clark County as the Planning Director. After that, he worked at the Washington State Dept. of Water Resources as Asst. Director, which necessitated their move to Olympia, Wash. in 1967. In later years, he devoted his work efforts to property development. Tom loved woodworking, piloting airplanes, boating, the beach, and was devoted to his family. Tom and Alda were married 63 years until her death in 2001. He is also preceded in death by his eldest son, Thomas McClelland Jr., and his sisters, Elizabeth and Barbara. He is survived by daughter-in-law, Judy (Epps) McClelland, Vancouver, Washington; son, George and Carol (Hamanishi) McClelland, Fruitland, Idaho; Raymond and Mickey (Beavers) McClelland, Banks, Oregon; daughter, Kathleen (McClelland) Wright, Lacey, Washington. He was blessed to have nine grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. | |

| 712 | | Thomas Price Thomas Price: 1957 The death occurred on Wednesday, August 14th in the Carleton, Place Hospital of Mr. Thomas Price following a heart attack suffered several months ago. Mr. Price was born April 25, 1894, a son of the late Jacob Price and his wife, Esther Munro. He was a lifelong resident of this district, residing on the homestead where he was a successful farmer. He was highly respected and his passing is deeply mourned. In 1916 he married Margaret McGuire, who predeceased him in 1935. To this union was born Kathleen, Mrs. Archie Barr, Clayton; Mary, Mrs. John Creighton, Rosetta; Allan Price, Perth; Jacob Price, Kirkland Lake. Margaret, Arnold and Audrey are deceased. In 1941 he married Isobel Camelon, who died two years later. In 1946, he married Mabel Penman, who survives. There are three grandchildren, Arnold Price of Perth; Lorraine and Keith Creighton of Rosetta also surviving are four sisters, Delilah, Mrs. Alex Munro of Ramsay; Elizabeth, Mrs. Edward Lamb of Winnipeg, Man.; Marion, Mrs. Stuart Gunn of Winchester; Jean, Mrs. Ernest Foster, Clayton. Two brothers, Jacob and Ira Price, Sonningdale, Sask. Four sisters and one brother are deceased, Maggie, Mrs. Sandy Rutherford, Unity, Sask.; Alice, Mrs. Milton McKay, Clayton; Mary, Mrs. Thos. Fife, Winchester; Esther, Mrs. Wm. Lyons, Winnipeg; Hugh Price, Galbraith. The funeral service was held on Friday afternoon at the Comba Funeral Home in Almonte. Rev. W. D. Reid officiated. An impressive service included a favourite hymn, "There Will Be No Disappointment In Heaven," rendered by Mr. Charles Tate. Interment was in the family plot in the United Church cemetery in Clayton. The pallbearers were neighbors, Russell Thompson, John G. Rintoul, Nathan Virgin, Willard Machan, James Fulton and Chas. Tate. Flower bearers were E. Blanchard, Allan McKay, Jas. Fife and Carl Foster. The numerous floral offerings received, testified to the high esteem in which the deceased was held. (Spatts) Schober since Sept. 24, 1983. Born in New York City, he was a son of the late Charles William and Sarah A. (Kelly) Schober. Thomas worked as an engineer for E.I. Associates Co., East Orange, N.J., for more than 20 years retiring in 1990. Previously, he worked in the same capacity for Curtiss-Wright Co., Paterson, N.J.; Teterboro, N.J. and in Pennsylvania. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Bethlehem. Thomas was a former member, deacon, trustee and elder of First Presbyterian Church, Caldwell, N.J. He was a graduate of Stevens Institute, Hoboken, N.J., and a member of the Alumni Association. He was a volunteer for R.S.V.P., Lehigh Valley and a member of the Morris Canal Historical Society in New Jersey. | 715 | | Thomas Scott A Tragedy The closing hours of Good Friday were marked with as sad an occurrence as has been recorded in Almonte in many years ? the accidental death of Mr Thomas Edward Scott. He was a son of Mr W.H. Scott of New England and a boy well known an well liked in town. He was just beginning to develop and gave every promise of making a fine athlete. It seems hard to realize that one so full of the vigour of life should be so suddenly called away. He was alighting from a freight at the station about eight o'clock Friday evening when in some manner he slipped and fell under the wheels. His right leg was completely severed. Medical help was quickly on hand, and he was removed to the hospital, but the loss of blood and shock had been too much and the power we call life departed Saturday evening. He was sixteen years of age. The funeral on Monday was very large. She was born the daughter of Alva R. and Allie M. (Edwards) Levey on May 8, 1929 in Tuscarora, New York. Prior to her retirement in 1983 she was employed in the cafeteria at Craig Developmental Center in Sonyea for over 20 years. She was a former member of the Village Baptist Church in Mount Morris and CSEA. She loved to bake, scrapbooking and playing bingo. | 718 | | Timothy Burgdorf Timothy Charles Burgdorf, 56 SOUTH PORTLAND -- Timothy Charles Burgdorf, 56, of South Portland, died unexpectedly following a heart attack on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010. Tim was born on April 7, 1954, in Oswego, N.Y., to Charles and Margaret Burgdorf. Tim graduated from Red Creek High School in Red Creek, N.Y., and went on to obtain a bachelor of science from Springfield College in Springfield, Mass. Tim moved to Maine in 1978 to teach at the Governor Baxter School for the Deaf where he remained for 12 years. In 1990, Tim began his second career as a computer applications trainer. For the past 12 years, Tim was employed by VTEC Training Center in South Portland. Tim worked closely with companies in southern Maine and was highly sought after as a presenter at IT conferences throughout New England. Genuinely excited about his work, Tim passed his enthusiasm on to countless students and was able to help them understand even the most difficult topics. As one colleague said, 'Tim touched a lot of people with his good nature, willingness to help, and the big hugs he gave when he saw you.' While teaching at the Governor Baxter School for the Deaf, Tim met his beloved wife, Valori Sears, a fellow deaf educator. They married in 1984, and carried out their shared dream of raising a family. Tim was a devoted father to his two sons, Taylor, 22, and Tanner, 19. He welcomed opportunities to get involved in their lives through coaching and parented them with acceptance, encouragement, and unconditional love. Tim is survived by his wife of 26 years, Valori Sears; and sons, Taylor and Tanner Burgdorf, all of South Portland; father, Charles Burgdorf and his wife Elizabeth of Fair Haven, N.Y.; brother, Michael Burgdorf and his wife Ann of Dallas, Texas; nephew, Nicholas Burgdorf of Boise, Idaho, and niece, Kelsie Burgdorf, of Dallas, Texas. | 719 | | Timothy Carr Timothy Ayerst Carr, 49, of Charlottesville, died of cystic fibrosis, on Wednesday, August 8, 2012, at Martha Jefferson Hospital. He was born on September 14, 1962, in Louisville, Kentucky, to the late Douglas Reed Carr and the late Grace Page Landers Carr. After the family moved to Virginia, he graduated from E.C. Glass High School in Lynchburg and attended the University of Virginia, where he majored in psychology and received his B.A. in 1985. After graduating from college, he worked as an intern at the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in Bethesda, Maryland. Tim subsequently pursued a variety of different career tracks before opening a car detailing business in Charlottesville, which he ran for ten years before his disease made it impossible for him to continue. During his years on disability, he pursued his interests in computers and web design as well as his lifelong passion for strength training, fitness, and nutrition. He credited his weight training program with extending his life far beyond the average span expected for cystic fibrosis patients. He combined his varied interests in his fitness blog, www.totalphysiqueonline.com. He had a lively, if quirky, sense of humor, and loved to play online word games with friends near and far. Tim was a devoted Christian, and while his disease kept him housebound most of the time, he surrounded himself with a community of like-minded Christians and participated in various prayer groups to the extent that his illness permitted. He is survived by his brother, Michael "Beau" Carr, his sister-in-law, Suzanne Hagedorn, and his nephew, Edwin Douglas Carr, of Williamsburg, Virginia; his stepmother, Terri Hileman Carr of Charlottesville; and his half-siblings, Katie Carr Messer and Douglas Carr of Asheville, North Carolina. He is also survived by his two aunts, Natalie Ruth Matthews of Wilson, North Carolina and her family, and Nancy Lanford Carr of Augusta, Georgia, and her family, as well as numerous cousins and second cousins. He also leaves an extensive network of friends and prayer partners in Charlottesville and beyond, including his special friend, Berenice "Bunny" Barnes of Abbotsford, British Columbia. Tim's dear friend, University of Virginia Medical Center Chaplain Don Moore, will officiate at a memorial service at 10 a.m. September 15, 2012, at the University of Virginia Chapel. | 720 | | Timothy Gardner Timothy M. Gardner, age 78, passed away ever so peacefully into the kingdom of heaven surrounded by family and friends on March 20,2020 after a short illness. He lived in Massena, New York until his retirement in 1999 when he and his wife Kathy moved to Red Oaks in Bushnell, Florida. Tim was born the son of George and Mabel Gardner on November 26,1941. Tim married Betty French on June 5, 1965. She predeceased him on December 25,1980. Tim married Kathy Steenberg on November 14,1987. He is survived by his wife Kathy Gardner, daughter, Tammy Gardner and partner John McElwain and sons; Timothy Gardner Jr., Terry Gardner and wife Bridgett, Scott Kocienski and wife Vickie, Christopher Kocienski, Corey Kocienski and wife Brandy. He loved his 21 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Tim was predeceased by his parents, George and Mabel Gardner, eight brothers; James, Andrew, Edward, George, Lawrence, Patrick, Horace, William, and seven sisters; Francis, Gladys, Mary, Hazel, Roberta, Margaret and Leila. Tim was the youngest of all of the children. Tim proudly served in the U.S. Army from August 30, 1963 to August 31, 1966 and left as PFC. After leaving the Army he was employed by St. Lawrence Transit Mix and then Graystone Materials. He had worked a total 30 years for both companies. He was a proud member of the New York State Teamsters Local 687. Tim's greatest love was his wife, children, family and friends. He was kind thoughtful and caring. He loved bowling and his New York Yankees. Tim will be laid to rest in the Calvary Cemetery in Massena New York at a later date. A graveside service is planned in the spring. | |

Hallett, Sr., 64, went to be with his personal Lord and Savior on Feb. 24, 2006, at Birch Street Baptist Church in Eau Claire.He was born on March 31, 1941, to Thomas and Karen Hallett in Edgerton. At age 16, he trusted the Lord as his personal Savior, and his life changed drastically for the Lord from his rough background. It was a life changing experience, and he was never the same. He loved the Lord Jesus and wanted to serve him all the days of his life.Timothy graduated from Janesville High School, Janesville, in 1959 and attended Baptist Bible College in Springfield, Mo., graduating in May 1963 with a Bachelor of Theology degree. It was at Baptist Bible College that he met the love of his life, Joyce. They were married the night after their college graduation on May 24, 1963.After college graduation he became a music and youth pastor at South Moline Baptist Church in Moline, Ill., for eight months. In March 1964, he and Joyce started the Bible Baptist Church in Belvidere, Ill. The church grew to a high attendance of 304. In July 1977, he became the pastor of the formerly named New Testament Baptist Church, which changed its name to Birch Street Baptist Church in Eau Claire.Pastor Hallett is survived by his wife, Joyce; their four children, Sheri (Dave) James of Wylie, Texas, Sharla (Ward) Adams of Kankakee, Ill., Timothy Jr. (Naomi) Hallett of Eau Claire and Todd (Cami) Hallett of Hammond; five grandchildren, Jonathan James, Colt, Chloe and Catelyn Adams and Timothy Hallett III; two brothers, Daniel Hallett of Janesville, and Steven (Virginia) Hallett of Scottsville, Ky.; one brother-in-law, Bryan Suhler of Colorado Springs, Colo.; five nephews and two nieces.He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Thomas.Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 4, 2006, at Birch Street Baptist Church, with Pastor Timothy Hallett, Jr. officiating.Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, March 3, 2006, at Birch Street Baptist Church and on Saturday at the church one hour prior to the service.A memorial fund has been established for his wife, Joyce, in his name.Stokes & Mundt Funeral Chapel in Altoona is assisting the family with arrangements. | |

| 723 | | Todd McWilliam Todd Kent McWilliam passed away June 11, 2014, at the age of 49. Todd will be interred at the DFW National Veterans Cemetery in Grand Prairie, TX. A private military ceremony will honor his years of service to our country and his life here on Earth. Todd went to school in Jefferson and went on to earn several degrees: a bachelor?s degree in criminal science, a bachelor?s degree in accounting, a master?s degree in business, and a master?s degree in public administration. He also earned an associate of applied science degree in mortuary science. In high school Todd worked for Slininger?s Funeral Home where he gained a calling for funeral directing. Todd first served eight years as a military policeman for the Air Force during the Gulf War, spending a large portion of that time working gang detail in Korea. After the military Todd became a policeman, which lead into a position as a prison guard with the Iowa Department of Corrections. Todd finally realized his calling from high school and was a funeral director for several years until his death. Todd had a great sense of humor and a kind heart. He loved fitness and body-building and was an avid movie buff. However, his favorite pastime was spent as a model train aficionado, building detailed train layouts and collecting trains and airplanes. Todd?s spirit will be greatly missed. | 727 | | Tom McClelland THOMAS E. MCCLELLAND, SR. August 2, 1917 ~ September 13, 2012 Tom, age 95, passed away September 13, 2012 in Olympia, WA. He was born August 2, 1917 in Auburn, NY, to Thomas E. and Atha F. (Fitzgerald) McClelland. In 1937, he married Alda Faye Carson in San Francisco, CA, and they moved to Vancouver, WA. During WWII, he worked at the Kaiser Corporation shipyards and was promoted to lead engineer for aircraft carrier hull design in NY. He later served as Director of Urban Renewal in Vancouver, and in Clark County as the Planning Director. After that, he worked at the WA. State Dept. of Water Resources as Asst. Director, which necessitated their move to Olympia in 1967. In later years, he devoted his work efforts to property development. Tom loved woodworking, piloting airplanes, boating, the beach, and was devoted to his family. Tom and Alda were married 63 years until her death in 2001. He is also preceded in death by his eldest son, Thomas McClelland Jr., and his sisters, Elizabeth and Barbara. He is survived by daughter-in-law, Judy (Epps) McClelland, Vancouver; son, George and Carol (Hamanishi) McClelland, Fruitland, ID; Raymond and Mickey (Beavers) McClelland, Banks, OR; daughter, Kathleen (McClelland) Wright, Lacey, WA. | 728 | | Tom Williams Tom passed away May 18, 2015. Tom was born February 12, 1935 in Adrian, MI; the son of Adrian and Irene (Finley) Williams and was a resident of Springfield, MI for many years. Tom proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1954-1956. While in the army, Tom served as driver for the Commanding General of the 25th Infantry Division, Schofield Barracks Ohua, Hawaii. A graduate of Western Michigan University with a B.S. in Industrial Arts Education in 1959 and a M.A. in Industrial Education in 1961, Tom was an Industrial Arts teacher and taught in Fremont Public Schools and the Springfield Public Schools, retiring in 1990. A volunteer firefighter for the City of Springfield for twenty eight years, Tom was also on the Board of Appeals for twenty four years. Tom was an active member of Lions Club International, and a member of the former Springfield Lions Club, the Bedford Area Lions Club and the Wauchula Lions Club in Florida, and a past district governor of District 11-B-1, Michigan. Tom was also a member of the Bedford Masonic Lodge 207, and a Battle Creek Enquirer George Award recipient in 1979. Tom was also a member of Westlake Presbyterian Church and Country Chapel Methodist Church. Tom was also a woodworker and amateur radio operator: KC8FRL; and enjoyed spending the winter in Florida for many years and summers at the lake. Tom will be remembered as a leader, a devoted family man, a community volunteer, and mostly for the love he had for children. On October 25, 1975, Tom married the former Julia M. Pennock, who survives. He is also survived by children: Becky (John) Webb, Amy (Richard) Girardo; a sister: Kay Williams; a sister-in-law: Pat Williams; step-daughters: Lori Stormshak (Ted Hubbard) and Shelly McMurray; grandchildren: Kelsie and Carley Webb, Ben and Kyle Girardo, Jami (Chris) Browning, Jodi Stormshak (Peter Bailey); great-grandchildren: Ella and Max Browning; and several nieces and nephews. Tom was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter: Wendy Williams; and a brother: Robert Williams. | 735 |  | Two Children Die of Burns in Farm Fire Two Children Die of Burns in Farm Fire Varda Campbell, Aged One, and Gerald, Aged Two, Victims at Thurso Explosion of coal oil poured into a stove to hasten the fire resulted in the deaths of two children in the farmouse of Donald E. Campbell at The lower", seven miles north of Thurso yesterday, Verda Campbell, his one-year-old daughter, died in the Civic Hospital early today, while Gerald Campbell, aged two, died on the way to the train from the farm house. According to Miss Ethel MacKenzie, 6 Fifth avenue, a step-daughter of Mr. Campbell, the latter wanted to light the fire in the stove in the kitchen of he farm house. He decided to put some coal oil on the coal to quicken the blaze. Thought Fire Was Out Miss MacKenzie said Mr. Campbell poured some oil on the supposedly dead coals, but apparently one of the pieces of coal was hot enough to ignite the liquid. There was an instant explosion. One-year-old Verda was sitting in her high chair beside the stove and Gerald was playing on the floor. With the explosion of the oil fumes, the curtains on the windows took fire. Mr. Campbell tried to extinguish the blaze with oats and succeeded in smothering it. Articles in the room caught fire as well. Misa MacKenzie related to The Journal, and the light clothing of the two children was ignited. In his frantic efforts to beat out the fire in the room and to help the screaming babies, Mr. Campbell's arms and legs were terribly burned. No one else was at home at the time. The other members of the family, Mrs. Campbell and an 18-year-old son, Gordon, were in Thurso shopping, a daughter, Muriel, and another son, Arthur, aged eight, were at school. They did not discover the disaster until after they had returned from the town and school. Sent to Hospital. Difficulty was experienced in obtaining a physician, as the farm-house is isolated. Finally, Dr. Poliquin was located near Thurso. He gave first aid to the three injured and ordered the children removed to a hospital. While the father remained at home under treatment of Dr. Poliquin, Mrs. Campbell took the two babies in a sleigh driven by the eldest son and started for Thurso. Gerald died before they reached Thurso. The mother and Verda continued on to the city, where Verda died in the Civic Hospital early today The body of the child was removed to Woodburn's undertaking parlors. Vera and Herbert Dobbs of Golden Valley were married October 4, 1933 and they operated the family homestead farm. Vera also cared for her widowed father-in-law until his death in 1942. Vera and Herb were very involved in their community, belonging to church, school and social groups - U.C.W., W.I., L.O.L., L.O.B.A., Argyle Lions and the Hockey Association. After Herb's death in 1956, Vera continued to farm as well as work at local lumber camps and tourist resorts until moving to Toronto in 1961. There she peformed domestic work and soon found her assistance was in great demand. In 1966, she was employed full-time by Bill & Donna (Paul) Streit, and daughter Julie, at their residences in (Bayview) Toronto and Stouffville. She remained with them until 1976, when she went to live with Noreen, Dallas and family in Mississauga. Vera continued to work locally until retiring in 1978. Vera returned to the north, living in South River from 1983 - 1988, then was the first residence in "The Pines", Powassan. She resided there until her stroke in April, 1991, and has since resided at Lady Isabelle Nursing Home, Trout Creek. Vera enjoyed sharing her life with family and friends, especially at her cottage on Lake Nipissing. Casket bearers for Mrs. Dobbs were Jim Landon, Glen McConnell, Paul, Brad, Bryon and Murray Dobbs. | 741 | | Vern Reynolds Vern Reynolds, 82, of Battle Creek, MI, and Leesburg, FL, died at Battle Creek Health System, with his family at his side, on Monday, September 13, 2010. He was born on November 12, 1927, in Sullivan County, IN, to Smith and Gladys (Stewart) Reynolds. As a child he moved to Battle Creek, where he attended a one room country school and was a 1945 graduate of Battle Creek Senior High School. One of his favorite retreats in high school was Ye Olde Mission Billiard Hall, where he played a mean game of snooker. Before graduation, he worked at O.K. Anderson Jewelry Store and then enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was honorably discharged as a corporal in Aug. 1947. Vern married Jean Marie Wellever in Nov. 1947 and they moved to Peoria, IL, in Jan. 1948, where he attended watchmaker school at the Bradley Polytechnic Institute. After graduating from there in late 1948, he again worked for O.K. Anderson until Oct. 1950, when he began at Post Cereals. He was employed at Post Cereals for 36 years, retiring in 1986, as supervisor of the Control Department. In May of 1974, Vern married Lois G. (Crosby) Seabrooke. For over 20 years he spent his winters with Lois in Florida, returning to Battle Creek the other half of the year. Surviving are his wife of 36 years, Lois Reynolds; his children, Sandy (Jim) Denzel of Milpitas, CA, Kathy (Randy) Crandall of Mendon, and Mike (Janet) Reynolds of Hastings; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; his stepchildren, Linda (Jim) Smith and Ross Seabrooke; and Linda's two children. Vern was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings, Mary Eleanor Fancher, Wilma Watts and Merle E. Reynolds. Vern was always "Mr. Fix-it", at home and at his families' and friends' homes. Nothing was too big or small. He loved to work with his hands and had the tools and scars to prove it. Until his retirement, Vern went deer hunting every fall. After retiring, he began fishing, in Michigan, in Florida and on his yearly two week fishing trip to Canada. Over the years, he was accompanied on his fishing trips to Canada by all of his children, his wife Lois, as well as a friend or two. Vern loved playing golf (achieving four hole-in-ones), repairing watches for many years, playing poker and euchre with friends, and in his later years enjoyed thrift stores and garage sales. At the request of the family, friends may call after 6:00 p.m. Thursday, September 16, 2010 at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, MI, where they will be received 6:00-8:00 p.m. Services to celebrate Vern's life will be held at the funeral home 1:30 p.m., Friday, September 17, 2010. | 742 | | Vern Webster WEBSTER, Arthur Vernon (Vern) - born 90 years of age passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family, Dad bravely and courageously, took his last breath on Sunday, June 15, 2008. Husband of the late Belva Mae Webster, beloved father of Lynn Tremblay (Ron), Cornwall; Cathy Jamsa (Simo), Thunder Bay; Patrice McDonald, Kingston; Brent Webster (Michele) and Jennifer all of Ottawa. Sadly missed by eight grandchildren and 10 [great grandchildren]: Natalie Primeau (Marc) [Aaron, Ethan, Ryan & Dustin]; Lisa Friesen (Tyler) [Cooper and Quinn Arthur Vernon]; Michael Gagnon, Sheri Gagnon; Tammy Onland (Michael), [Michaela & Michael]; Stacey Hartley (Todd) [Rylee and Matthew]; Candice Webster and Philip Webster. He was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Lillian (Heath) Webster, and his sister, Eileen Cochrane. Dad was born on October 31, 1917, grew up in Milles Roches, Ontario and graduated from Cornwall Collegiate and Vocational School (CCVS). He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) in May 1940 and was honourably discharged on September 24, 1945. He married Belva Mae Webster (RCAF) on February 11, 1946 in Ottawa. They moved to Cornwall and started their family there. Dad resumed his duties back at Cornwall Motor Sales until his retirement in 1982. Dad was a Charter Member of Cornwall Wing 424 RCAFA, held significant leadership positions and was recognized provincially and nationally for his work within this Association (received the Meritorious Service Award in 1990). He was also involved in the community and partnered with the Kiwanis Club in sponsoring Cornwall's Air Cadet Squadron. He and Dr. Lefebvre were instrumental in starting up services for people with developmental disabilities, now known as Community Living - Stormont County. He was a Scout Leader during the 1950s, attended Trinity Anglican Church where he taught Sunday school, served on Parish Council, and was instrumental in the planning and the operation of the Beek Lindsay House. His hobbies included fishing, wine making, quiet visits to the quarry and researching family genealogy which included a trip to Worksop, Nottingham. Dad enjoyed the challenge of mastering the computer and keeping in tough through emails. While living at McConnell Manor, he enjoyed playing scrabble, watching movies, participating in sing alongs and watching the new addition being built outside his window. | |

| 749 | | Vernon Rogers Vernon Joseph Rogers, Sr. passed away on Dec. 8, 2004, at the Oregon Veterans Home in The Dalles. He was 81 years old. Vern's parents, Jarret Rogers and Adda Belle (Anderson) Rogers were married in Heppner, Ore., on Dec. 3, 1904. Their oldest child, Frank Edward, was born in 1906 in Condon, Ore., before the family moved to the Hood River, Ore., area in 1913. Vern's two sisters were born in Hood River; Rita Margaret in 1915 and Zella Mae in 1917. Vernon Joseph was the youngest, and was also born in Hood River, on Sept. 27, 1923. Vernon grew up in the Hood River, Odell and Dee area, and attended school in Hood River. He went into the Army Air Corps in November 1942, two months after his brother Frank joined. As a Top Turret Gunner in a heavy bombardment crew, Technical Sergeant Rogers participated in 33 operational missions over enemy-occupied Europe while with his unit, the 8th Air Force, 95th Bombardment group, 336th Sq. He was awarded the Air Medal, 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th Oak Leaf Cluster, and was recommended for the Distinguished Flying Cross. According to his mother's journal, there was a particularly difficult few days for the family and community when they were erroneously notified that Vern was "missing in action." He was honorably discharged in September 1945. Returning to the Hood River area, Vernon met Betty Lou Bostwick, and they were married in February 1947, at the Riverside Community Church. They initially lived in the Hood River and Dee area, later moving to Portland, and several years later moving to the Eagle Creek, Ore., area. They had four children: Vernon Joseph, Jr., Craig Jarret, David Lyle, and Joan Marie. Vern and Betty were married over 20 years, but were divorced in 1967. Hardworking and industrious, throughout the years Vern held a variety of occupations - if need be, working two or three jobs simultaneously to make ends meet. Occupations included working at the lumber mill in Dee, teaming daily with wife Betty to deliver The Oregonian to Dee and Odell residents, at the aluminum plant in Troutdale, as a warehouseman at United Grocers, and for years operated his own farm in the Eagle Creek-Dover area. After retiring from United Grocers, for a time he owned and operated a commercial fishing boat out of Brookings, Ore. He moved to Nehalem, Ore., spending many happy years semiretired there. Vern grew up fishing and hunting. He was also an accomplished musician with a very good singing voice. Having been taught to play several instruments as a youngster, his favorite became the guitar. For a very short time, he played as part of a band in the Columbia Gorge area, but later played for many years at family sing-a-longs. He developed a lifelong habit of daily Bible scripture reading. He became quite skilled at cooking, and loved to cook for others. Later in his life, his hobbies were simple - fishing and hunting, cooking and family. In 1998, after beginning to experience health problems, he moved to Spray, Ore., to be near his daughter, Joan. In September 2004, after increasing health concerns, Vern moved into the Oregon Veterans Home in The Dalles. Early in the morning on Dec, 8, 2004, he suffered a stroke, and that evening he passed away. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Frank and sisters Rita and Zella, and by two very special canine companions: "Lucky" and "Rocky." He is survived by: sons Vernon Rogers, Jr., Craig Rogers, David Rogers, daughter Joan Field, and former wife Betty; numerous other family members, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and many, many good friends. A memorial service will be on Dec. 17 at 11 a.m., at the Anderson Funeral Home and Tribute Center, 1401 Belmont Road, Hood River. Vernon will be laid to rest near his family at Idlewild Cemetery, Hood River.
