 | Catherine LaFrance With loving hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of our mother, Cathy at the Algoma Residential Community Hospice ( ARCH ) with her daughter Tracy by her side on Sunday January 12, 2014 at the age of 63, after a long courageous battle with cancer. People who knew Cathy will remember her strength, brilliance and down to earth nature. A Jill-of-all-trades and a love of literacy led Cathy to become an adult educator for the Algoma District School Board, March of Dimes, First Nations and WSIB where she spent countless hours teaching her students basic literacy to tutoring college and university courses. Born and raised in Thessalon, ON the daughter of the late Anne Montgomery ( Townes ) and the late Joseph LaFrance. Loving mother of Todd ( Paula ) and Tracy ( Henrik ) LaFrance. Nana to Coty and Chelsya Thomas and Thor and Isabelle LaFrance. Sister of Jim ( Angie ) LaFrance, Joe ( Kathy ) LaFrance, Deb ( David ) Morin, Steve Townes, Linda Townes and Bill ( Audra ) Townes. Also remembered by many nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to the wonderful, compassionate and dedicated friendship of her best friend Wanda McColman of 30 years, who in the end battled the cancer with Mom every step of the way, Mom could have never done it without you. We would also like to thank Dr. Heather Blois for her excellent care over the years, her nurse Amy Shoust for being real, and the many compassionate caregivers at ARCH who helped care for her in the final days of her journey. In keeping with Cathys wishes, there will be no services held. Arrangements entrusted to Beggs Funeral Home Limited and Driftwood Cremation Centre. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Algoma Residential Community Hospice ( ARCH ) would be greatly appreciated.
