Sadly missed by sister, Reba (Les) Battle, brothers, Eric (Gladys) and Ronald (Betty), Lee, mother-in-law, Mary Horne and his grandchildren, predeceased by sister, Orma Benkowski and brother, Wilmer Lee.  | John Alexander Byers Powassan: Funeral services will be held at Powassan, Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock for John Alexander Byers, who died Monday at his home in Powassan. He was 86 years of age and was ill for only two days before his death. The service will be held at the home of his son, Irvin, with Rev. Knowles officiating, and internment will take place in the Nipissing Cemetery. Mr. Byers six sons will act as pall-bearers.
Born at Eganville, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Byers, he moved to Nipissing in 1894 and lived there until two years ago when he moved to Powassan. One of the best known residents of the Nipissing area, he worked as a sawmill employee and farmer most of his life.
Mr. Byers was predeceased by his wife, the former Florence Mary Perry nine years ago. He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Clinton Turcotte, North Bay; Mrs. S. Grawbarger, Callander; Mrs. A.W. Radkey, Larder Lake; Mrs. Bert Johnston, Simcoe; and six sons, William, Mimico; Alex and Levi, Callander; Enos, Gordon and Irvin, Powassan. Two brothers Thomas, Powassan and Robert, Pittsburgh, Penn., also survive.

Peacefully at home on Saturday September 26. 2015, John Whyte in his 80th year. John is survived by his wife of 55 years, Beverly (Blake), his two daughters- Peggy (Terry Craig) of Sackville, N.B. and Beth (Dave MacDonald) of Unionville, On. and his five grandchildren Kathleen Craig and Scott, Rory, Blake and Lauren McDonald. John will be missed by his sisters Marion (Roy Spratt), Helen (Harry Rylaarsdam, late Murray Hope), Eileen (George Conlin, late Bill Stackpole) and the late Margaret (late Dave Mackie). He will be similarly missed by in-laws Jim and Kathy Blake and special family friends John and Connie Gould. He was the son of the late Stuart and Mabel (Reid) Whyte. All who knew him will miss his dry wit, generous spirit and caring nature. Over the years John promoted and served the agricultural community many ways: 4H leader, President of the East Carleton Junior Farmers, President of the Metcalfe Agricultural Society. Director of the Central Canada Exhibition, of Carleton Crop and Soil Association and of the Farm Safety Council. In recent years he devoted time and resources to the Top Generation Seniors Club which was founded in part by John and Bev's parents. John's family has been ably supported during the final stages of his illness by the skilled and compassionate workers from Bayshore Home Health, from the Regional Palliative Consultation Team, The Community Care Access Centre and Dr. Michael Malek. We express our sincere thanks to those dedicated individuals.  | John Bartman "UNCLE" JOHN BARTMAN 1930 - 2002 Peacefully on June 14, 2002 at the Seven Oaks Hospital, John Bartman passed away at the age of 72, with his wife at his side. Left to cherish his memory is his wife Jean, daughter Deborah and granddaughter Ashley, his brothers, Edward (Vickie) and Victor; sisters, Kathy (Joe), Adeline, Rose (Ron), Barbara (David), and Liz (Lawrence) nieces, Teena, Rebecca, Quinn, Tanya, and Tiffany; nephews, Perry (Lenka), and Kenneth; great-niece Karrah and great-nephew Dylan; close friends, Tom Coutts of Red Deer, AB, Matt "of Medicine Hat", and many other friends and relatives. John will be greeted by his parents, Michael and Teenie; infant brothers, Petric and Joe; infant sister Natalie; son Robert (May 19, 2002) and brother-in-law Lawrence. John was born in Fraserwood on June 11, 1930 and left to seek his fortune in Ontario at the age of 16. He pursued his career as a steam fitter, working across Canada making acquaintances and fellow employees into long-life friends. He retired and resided in Buck Lake, AB from 1972 until 1995 when he returned to Fraserwood and Winnipeg to be with family and friends. John loved just being with his family and friends, enjoying Ukrainian music, discussing politics, cooking, hunting, woodworking and playing the violin. The family would like to thank the doctors and nursing staff at the Seven Oaks Hospital for their care and support. At Johns request, cremation has taken place and there will be no service. Memorial service with full military honors for Lieutenant Commander John Harold Burger, 79, will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Sunday, October 20, 2024 in the backyard of his residence at 116 Bomar Street, Ridge Spring, SC 29129. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice. Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Historic Batesburg-Leesville Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements.
Mr. Burger passed away Monday, October 14, 2024. Born in Tuxedo, NY, he was a son of the late Hans Otto Burger and Joyce Elizabeth Walton Burger. John was a graduate of Monroe Woodbury High School, Monroe, NY. He would later meet his future wife, Nola Clare Ashmore at a drive-in movie in Acme, Michigan on July 5, 1965. They were married on August 13, 1966. John was a member of Ridge Spring United Methodist church, American Legion Post 133 in Ridge Spring, and Persimmon Hill Golf Club. Mr. Burger was an Eagle Scout, a former Mayor of Ridge Spring from 1993-1995, retired from the U.S. Coast Guard as a LCDR where he was a Helicopter Pilot, and was the Owner/Operator of B&B Builders.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Nola Burger; sons, Troy Burger (Beth) and Gary Burger (Rebekah); brother, Peter Burger (Patty); sister, Patricia Trudgeon; grandchildren, Peyton Vickers (Billy), Cody Burger (Lydia), Rachel Layton (Jacob), Ward Burger, and Benjamin Burger; great-grandchildren, Olivia Vickers, Elena Rose Vickers, Greyson Vickers, Charles Burger, and Margaret Burger
He was predeceased by brothers, Richard Burger and Thomas Burger.
