Marion Pym
Marion Pym
Donna “Marion” Pym passed away at home, on Friday, October 27, 2023, surrounded by the love of her family, ending a brave journey through cancer. She was 66 years old.
Marion is survived by her devoted husband of 41 years, Richard Pym. The two formed the most perfect pair. Working hard, and never far from each others’ side, they built a strong foundation upon which to support their growing family. Marion will be deeply missed by her three sons: Christopher (Jen), Matthew (Andrew), and Daniel (Krista). They will forever remember her fun-loving spirit, strong will, and ongoing support of their individual endeavours.
Marion adored her three granddaughters, Hailey, Rae and Amelia. She was an avid cheerleader at their hockey, baseball and soccer games, and seized every opportunity to take on baby-sitting duties. They will cherish their memories with Gigi, including sleepovers, bonfires, hot chocolate at breakfast, playing at the park, and searching for beach glass.
Born in Petrolia Ontario, Marion was one of five children to Donna (Tanner) and Bill Anderson. She leaves behind her brother Ron (Clothilde) and sister Catherine (Lorne). She is predeceased by her beloved parents, sister Ruth and brother Ray (Deborah).
Marion began her career as a travel agent in 1978. She was fortunate to travel to many corners of the world and was always eager to share her experiences abroad with colleagues and clients. In 2001, this adventurous spirit led her to start a new chapter working at Bruce Telecom. She was often delighted to see a familiar face in the office, or hear it on the phone as a customer service representative. As a proud supporter and longstanding volunteer of Big Brothers Big Sisters, Marion fulfilled multiple roles within the Kincardine branch - ultimately serving as President.
In 2019 she retired, allowing her to spend more time in Scottsdale Arizona, a place that was near and dear to her heart. Never one to sit still for long, and always with her camera in hand, Marion loved the desert. Exploring and hiking the natural landscapes, making stained glass, and socializing with her fellow snowbirds made the winters fly by.
When home, Marion never took life on Lake Huron for granted. She always took the time to admire our spectacular sunsets, and walk along the beach. She also loved to garden and spent much of her time in her sprawling and ever-evolving backyard. Finally, she was also a natural host, and her large extended family was often fortunate to enjoy her warm hospitality and delicious baking.
Though Marion was taken too soon, we remember her as a brilliant soul with an unwavering kindness, and a smile that would light up the room. Her spirit lives on in those she loves.
Marion’s celebration of life will take place at the Ainsdale Golf Course, Kincardine, on Sunday, November 26th from 1-4pm.
Our deepest gratitude to Dr. Damian Gunaratne and team for their compassionate care. A special thank you to Joanne Metters for her faithful friendship, selfless generosity, and enduring support.
Memorial donations to a charity of your choice would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.

With great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Marjorie Spratt on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at the Portage District General hospital at the age of 83 years. With her family by her side and stories and laughter in the air, Mum went to join her true love.
Left to cherish Marjorie?s memory are her children Cal (Debbie) Spratt and Tammie (David) Miller of Portage la Prairie, MB, grandchildren Ryan (Britt) Spratt, Cory (Andrew) Moar, Tyler Miller and Evan Miller, great-grandchildren Eberley and Tassyn Spratt and Ayla Moar.
Marjorie was predeceased by her beloved husband Hugh ?Bud?, parents Fred and Elsie Johnson, brother Danny Johnson and sister Laura Sigmundson.
Mum was born in Baldur, MB. She graduated from Baldur School and started her career with Manitoba Telephone system at 16 years of age, where she remained until her retirement 1990. She worked the switchboard for many years, and later moved downstairs to the engineering department. She moved to Portage in 1957, where she met the love of her life, and they went on to raise their two children. In her younger years, Mum curled and played ball with the ANAF Scarlets, and she always had a love for flowers and gardening, keeping up Dad?s tradition of growing tomatoes from seed. In her later years, she enjoyed watching curling and talking hockey with the grandchildren, and doing her daily morning crossword puzzle. Mum and Dad spent 30 years camping at Sportsman Corner, having good times and many laughs with their long-time friends. Mom always looked forward to September long weekends, as we all congregated there for the big derby. Mum liked to crochet and made afghans for everyone in the family including great-grandchildren. She always had an open door policy, as it takes nothing to put another potato in the pot and another plate at the table.
Her smile, laughter, charm and wit will be lovingly remembered by all who received the gift of knowing our Mum.
Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, May 22, 2019 at 1:00 pm at McKenzies Portage Funeral Chapel, Portage la Prairie, MB led by Rev. John Dolloff. Interment will take place at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
If friends so desire, donations in Marjorie?s memory may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 1379 Kenaston Boulevard Winnipeg, MB R3P 2T5 or to Portage Animal Welfare Society (PAWS), 121 12th St. NE, Portage la Prairie, MB, R1N 4A2.
