 | Shirley Irene Stewart It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Shirley Irene Stewart, our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, on January 22, 2023, at the age of 89.
Irene was predeceased by her parents, Cecil and Mary McKay several years past, her husband of 54 years, Charles D. Stewart in 2008, their son Donald in 2009 and daughter Lorraine in 2017.
Left to cherish her memory are daughter Shirley; daughter-in-law Heather; granddaughters, Vanessa and Grace; grandsons, Cameron (Krista) and Jeffrey; great-grandchildren, Neilan and Brynlee; extended family and friends.
Mom was born March 13, 1933 to Cecil and Mary McKay of Sinclair, MB. She later left small town life to live with her Aunt Mary, Uncle Duncan and cousins, Allan and Sharon Cameron in Winnipeg, returning often, throughout her life to visit her roots in Sinclair.
She was working at Harman's Drugstore in Winnipeg when she met the love of her life Charles D. Stewart. They were married in 1954 and resided in Lilyfield, MB where Dad farmed. Mom worked for a time as a secretary at Link Belt but she quickly adapted to being a full time farm wife feeding harvesters, driving grain trucks and operating machinery while remaining an impeccably stylish lady at all times and raising a family.
Mom enjoyed gardening, baking, curling, playing cards, caring for family, travels with Dad, her riding lawnmower and going out for dinner. She found her greatest joy in love of family and gifted us with her teachings, kindness and strength.
The family is grateful for the long and rich life that Mom had, the friends acquired along her path, her unwavering generosity and support, and the care she received at River Ridge Assisted Living and at Seven Oaks Hospital in her final days.
In keeping with her wishes a private family service and interment will take place.

 | Shirley Kirkpatrick KIRKPATRICK, Shirley Clare (nee Burton)
1931 - 2023
It is with great sadness and loving memories that we mourn the passing of Shirley Kirkpatrick, Auntie Shirley, on Sunday, August 27, 2023, at the age of 91 years.
Shirley is survived by her sister-in-law, Mary Burton; her many nieces and nephews: Perry Davis, Joy (Jack) Kuehn, Fay (Art Lavoie) Jasman, Prosper Boisvert, Vicki Noel, Eleanor (Ron) Preuss, Louise (Craig) Davis, Shirley (Kevin) Montpetit, Susan Hulbert, Jim (Laurie) Thain, and Barbara (Doug) Halladay; stepson, John (Helen) Kirkpatrick; step-grandchildren, Jason Kirkpatrick, Ashley Kirkpatrick, David Skistod, and Tracy Mundell; and many great and great-great-nieces, nephews, and friends.
Shirley was predeceased by her husband, Pat Kirkpatrick; stepdaughter, Sherrill Ann Skistod; parents, Christopher and Jessie Burton; sister, Barbara (Ernie) Klymchuk; niece, Clare Boisvert; brother, Leonard Burton; nephew, Charles Burton; sister, Joyce (Jim) Goodall; and nephew, Rick Hulbert.
Shirley Kirkpatrick was the youngest of four children born to Christopher and Jessie Burton, south of Edgerton, on September 23, 1931. She was their youngest child and the last living member of their family. Shirley had recently been living in Independent Living, and last week moved to the Edmonton General Continuing Care Centre where she passed away peacefully while in Hospice. She was soon to be 92 in a few weeks, but in those nearly 92 years, Shirley had an abundant and rewarding life, teaching elementary school for 35 years, both in Canada and abroad. She was an avid Bridge player and loved reading in her book club.
We will miss Shirley for her intelligent conversation, wonderful giving nature, appreciation for the arts, and her beautiful smile and guidance through the years. She touched so many lives and that is what we will remember.
The family would like to thank Dr. Noush Mirhosseini, and her team from the palliative care unit, at the University of Alberta Hospital.
A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 1, 2023, at Connelly-McKinley Downtown Funeral Home, 10011 114 St NW, Edmonton.
