SINCLAIR -Among the last of the district's first homesteaders, Alexander McKay, passed away in the Souris Hospital on Sept. 28th at the age of 91.
He was born in Lanark County, Ontario in January 1873, the eldest son of the late Thomas and Annie McKay.
Mr. McKay, affectionately known to young and old alike, as 'Pa', first came west in 1896 to Reston. He returned to the east several times but in 1901 came west to Minto and in March 1903 moved to the Sinclair district to the farm now occupied by Ernest Rhodes. He farmed there successfully until November, 1943. Since then he has spent his time with his sons Douglas and Cecil at Sinclair, until November 1962,
when he suffered a stroke. Since then he had been in the Assiniboine Hospital in Brandon, and for the past six months in the Riverbend Home, at Souris.
He married the former Margaret Langstaffe in 1900, and she now lives at the Sherwood, in Virden. Also surviving are his four sons, Allan of Squamish, B.C., Harvey of Moline, Douglas and Cecil of Sinclair, and two daughters, Mrs. D. F. Cameron (Mary) of San Diego, Calif, Mrs. James Cross (Helen) of Seattle, Wash. Four small daughters predeceased him.
He also leaves two brothers, Carles and Welland, of Almonte, Ont, three sisters, Mrs. Hattie Rogers and Mrs. Margaret Reid, of Almonte, and Mrs. Esther Mealy of Brandon. Two brothers, Thomas and John, and a sister, Mrs. Jack Robertson predeceased him.
There are thirteen grandchildren and five great grand children.
The funeral was held in the United Church, Sinclair, at which he had been a faithful attender, on Thursday, October 1st. Rev. Henderson officiated. Active pallbearers were: Gordon Pickett, Cecil Brownlee, Neil Chester, Bill Pearson, Lou Mayert and Gordon Mitchell. Honorary pallbearers were Ken Hayward, Chas, Dyon, Ted Jones, Wilfred Bulloch, J. D. Bulloch and Geo. Hooper. Burial was in Sinclair cemetery.

Penman, Brandon; Mr. and Mrs. Welland Mealy, Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Mealy, Mr. and Mrs. Lorne Halliday, all of Fairfax; Mr. and Mrs Tom Craig, Headingly, Bob Colquhoun, Virden, Mrs. L and K Cameron and Mrs. Wilf Forsyth, Wood north.

As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.

Tupper Lake - Mrs. Alice Hathaway, 88. of Moody Road died Tuesday at 9:05 am. at Mercy General Hospital. She had been a patient there about five weeks.
She was born in Lewis, the daughter of John Johnson and Sarah McBride, Her husband, Charles Hathaway, died in Tupper Lake in 1931. Since his death she has operated Hillcrest Farms, a tourist home at Moody.
Survivors include: three grandchildren Mrs. Francis (Shirley) Sabatino of Mechanicville: Charles Hathaway of Clifton Park, and Robin McDougal of Fairbanks, Alaska: 10 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren; and a nephew, Wilbur Wrigley of Tupper Lake.
Services were held today at 10 am at St. Thomas Episcopal Church with the Rev. Michael Kundrat officiating and at St Thomas Cemetery.
