2002 FUNERAL SERVICES FOR MRS. McCURDY

Funeral services for Mrs. John F. McCurdy, were held Tuesday morning at 10:00 o'clock from the Methodist church in Haxtun. The funeral sermon was preached by the Rev. A.M. Carpenter, of Windsor, former pastor at Haxtun, who was assisted in the service by the Rev. C.J. Coulter, the present pastor. Burial was in the Haxtun cemetery.

Mr. and Mrs. McCurdy have been residents of Haxtun and community for more than 15 years and a large gathering of friends and neighbors were present to pay a last tribute to the deceased.

Clara Patience Yonker, eldest daughter of Sylvester and Laura Yonker, was born at Waterloo, Iowa June 20, 1871, at which place she lived until she was eight. She then moved with her parents to Brainnard, Nebraska where she grew to young womanhood.

She was united in marriage December 21, 1892 to John F. McCurdy. To this union were born two daughters, Mrs. Beulah Cheramy of Paoli, Colorado and Mrs. Emil Bentson of Haxtun.

Later they moved to Omaha, Nebraska where they made their home for 12 years. While living in Omaha Mrs. McCurdy united with the M.E. church, of which she was a faithful member.

They then moved to Lake City, Iowa and in 1917 they came to Colorado and settled on a farm 17 miles northeast of Haxtun, where they lived until about a year ago when they retired from farm life and moved to Haxtun.

Mrs. McCurdy had been in poor health for nearly three years. She was a patient sufferer and was ever faithful to her church and to her family.

She departed this life June 17, 1932 at the age of 61 years, 27 days. Besides her husband, two daughters and five grandchildren, she leaves to mourn their loss two sisters, Mrs. S.H. Kilgore of Lincoln, Nebraska, Mrs. Charles Shreve of Big Springs, Nebraska and one brother Arthur Yonker of Chappell, Nebraska and a host of relatives and friends.
