2483	Irene A. Lamme, August 9, 1921 - Aug 31, 2013 A short life story Irene was born in The Dalles, Oregon and lived some time at the Shearer's Bridge Hotel, on the Dechutes River. Her parents were Amelia Marie (nee Taylor) and Ernest O'Hara Webb. Amelia was the granddaughter of an original California gold rush pioneer family, the Taylors. Ernest was the son of Ida Belle (nee Gouge) and Moses Webb, whose ancestry flows back through the American Revolution. Irene went to school in Salem, where she met her husband Richard Paul Barton. They moved to Portland and had 4 children. When Marie was born in 1948, along came the Vanport flood. Their little house was ruined, so they moved to the Rocky Butte neighborhood, where she raised her children. In the late 1960's, her marriage was dissolved and she took a new name, Lamme, in honor of her maternal Grandmother's family. She bravely started back to work with her rusty secretarial and stenography skills. After years of paying her dues, she was employed by a large downtown law firm. She retired about the time word processors reared their heads. Next, Irene lived in a downtown apartment for 23 years and enjoyed the opera, symphony, great library, art exhibits, and the cafes of Portland. She was a creative seamstress, knitter and crocheter, as well as having a lovely singing voice and a talent for painting. But she enjoyed the company of her family the best--brunches at Roses or The Red Lion with pots of coffee and good conversation, noisy Christmases and birthdays in her tiny apartment. Many trips to New Hampshire to visit her sister Vivian. She was a devoted Catholic and loved Holy Rosary Church. Even after her brain injury, she found her way there from downtown, on public transit. In the spring of 2001, before her 80th Birthday, while walking near the Art Museum, she was knocked down by 2 little boys and suffered a traumatic brain injury, sustaining permanent inner ear damage and other problems. From then on, her life was more and more circumscribed and difficult. Even with almost complete blindness in one eye from glaucoma, and the head injury, she never complained. She spent her last day and night at Park Forest Care Center in Hospice, near her beloved "Grotto." When she realized her life was not going to get any better, she released her spirit and left this world with the scent of flowers. There is so much more to her. A self-educated woman, she straddled the mid-century and felt the excitement of positive changes for women and minorities. Her values were deep, spiritual, and very creative. She could be off beat and raunchy, or maddeningly traditional. At her best, she was quiet, shy, artistic, gentle with children and animals, highly intelligent--a physically and spiritually beautiful person. Survivors include children: Paul Barton, Marie Barton, Kane Lauralynne Taylor, Christopher Barton; grandchildren: Rachael Frederiksen, Heather Barton, Annette Suh, Caleb Barton, Dave Riegert, Tanya Ehorn; four great-grandchildren; sisters: Vivian Morse, LaVelle Underhill, Delores Rhodig-Charles; brother: Wayne Webb; nephews: David and James; nieces: Jean LaVelle and Zipporah; and other extended family. 2484	Irene was a resident of Pleasant Ridge for 17 years, formerly of Warren. She was a 1941 graduate of Kalamazoo Central High School and recently attended the 60th reunion. Irene and her father restored a house at 1912 Overland Dr., earning many ribbons and awards. She worked as a mechanic at several factories that included Inland Plastics and GE Carboloy. She was highly respected by her male co-workers. She enjoyed gardening and was a member of the Pleasant Ridge Garden Club. Irene also liked canning, arts & crafts including candle making, jewelry making, crochet, knitting, sewing and macramé. Beloved wife of the late Robert. 2486	Ireton - Munro (1945) The marriage took place at two o'clock on Saturday, June 2nd, in Carleton Place of Della Robina (Munro), daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Munro of Clayton and Thomas Oswald Ireton, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. A. Ireton, Halpenny. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Thos. McCord at his home, Frank Street. The bride was charming in a floor length model of white brocaded satin with fitted bodice and long sleeves, the full skirt having a circular train. Her three-quarter length veil of silk net fell from a coronet of orange blossoms and seed pearls, Briarcliffe -roses and maiden-hair fern composed her arm bouquet. The bridesmaid, Miss Iva L. G. Montgomery of Lanark, cousin of the groom, wore a jewel aqua gown of rayon alpaca, with white flower hat and matching accessories. Her corsage bouquet was pink roses. Assisting the groom was the bride's cousin, Mr. Eric Munro of Almonte. Following the ceremony, a buffet luncheon was served to the immediate relatives at the home of the bride's parents. The bride's mother, receiving in a dress of copen blue figured silk with white accessories, was assisted by Mrs. Ireton, mother of the groom, wearing lilac crepe with black accessories. Mrs. Percy Barr of Carleton, Miss Elizabeth Munro of Almonte served the guests. The toast to the bride was proposed by the Rev. Mr. McCord and ably responded to by the bridegroom. Many lovely and useful gifts were received by the young couple. The bridegroom's gift to the bride was a handsome silver tea service; to the bridesmaid, a gold bracelet and to the groomsman, a leather billfold. The bride's gift to the groom was a shaving kit. The bridal couple left by motor for Toronto, Niagara Falls and points west. For travelling the bride chose a blue tailored suit with white accessories. 2488	Irma Ling Walton Mrs. Erma Ling Walton, 75, a native of Bloomingdale, died Saturday at Camillus where she has been living for nine years. Mrs. Walton was a life member of the Whiteface Mt. Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the First Methodist Church of Camillus and of its W.S.C.S. Survivors are her husband, Paul; a daughter, Mrs. Ruth W. Kerns; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild; all of Camillus. Two sisters, Mrs. Ethel Lobdell and Mrs. Merivah L. Payne, both of Auburn, also survive. 2491	ISABEL IRENE MCLOUGHRY (MCCLAY) It is with great sadness that the family of Isabel McLoughry announces her passing on April 24, 2006. Isabel was born on September 17, 1923 in Belmont, MB. She moved to Winnipeg in her early 20s where she lived until her passing. Isabel will be lovingly remembered by her daughter and son-in-law, Heather and Jim O'Leary of Victoria, sister and brother-in-law, Gertie and Rae Reid of Brandon, sister-in-law Eva McClay of Winnipeg and many nieces and nephews. Isabel was predeceased by her beloved husband Bert in 1985. Cremation has taken place. Friends and family are welcome to attend a memorial service for Isabel on Saturday, April 29 at 2:00 p.m. at Knox United Church, 400 Edmonton St. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Isabel's memory to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the charity of one's choice. Len and Isabel enjoyed the 40?s, 50?s and 60?s at their shack tent in Waskesiu moving to Candle Lake in 1968, where they spent many enjoyable hours playing cards with friends and watching their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren play. Isabel spent every holiday cooking delicious meals for her family up to the age of 90, when she moved to the Good Shepherd in Prince Albert, SK. She later moved to Sherwood Park, AB where she spent a year in Summerwood Senior Living and the last few years at Extendicare Holyrood facility in Edmonton, AB. Isabel will be remembered by her family for her unconditional love and support. A memorial service will be held in summer 2014 when she will be laid to rest with her husband in Prince Albert, SK. The family would like to thank the staff at Holyrood for their kindness and care over the last few years. 2493	Isabell (Rossetti) Babbitt, of Firetown Road, Simsbury, beloved wife of the late Marshall W. Babbitt, died Sunday, May 15, 2011 at St. Francis Hospital surrounded by her daughters. She was born December 26, 1921 in Unionville, daughter of the late Andrew and Mary (Peloso) Rossetti and had lived in Simsbury for most of her life. Mrs. Babbitt was an Administrative Assistant for the Town of Simsbury Recreation Department for several years prior to her retirement. She had also worked for Richardson?s Clothing Store, Weldon Hardware and the University of Hartford. Isabell was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Church in West Simsbury and a former member of St. Mary?s Church in Simsbury, a member of the Friends of the Simsbury Public Library, the Simsbury Historical Society and the Hamilton Sundstrand Retirees? Club. She was also an avid tennis player and loved to crochet. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Elizabeth ?Betty? and Victor Pugliese of Windsor, Marshall W. Babbitt, Jr. and his wife, Janet of Ormond Beach, FL, Mary Babbitt of East Hartford and Deborah and Willi Matava of Collinsville; a brother and his wife, George and Shirley Rossetti of Granby; two sisters, Mary Jane Babbitt of East Granby and Gloria Rossetti of Canton; eight grandchildren, George Dauphinais II, Donna Naparstek, Willi Matava II, Gregory K. 2494	ISABELL L. ADAMS, 103 of Groton passed away on Friday evening, January 12, 2018 at the Groton Regency. She was born in Groton on October 29, 1914 the daughter of James and Lucy Doyle. She was married to the love of her life, William A. Adams, Sr. who referred to her as his queen, on August 20, 1936. William passed away on April 24, 2006. They had 30 years of retirement together, travelling throughout Europe and the US. She enjoyed being a homemaker and taking care of her family. She especially loved entertaining, being around her family and travelling to Pennsylvania with her sisters each year. Isabell was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Groton. She is survived by her son, William A. Adams, Jr and his wife Patricia of Westerly, RI, a daughter Barbara Robinson of San Diego, CA, her sister, Lucy Doyle of Groton, four grandchildren, Sheryl, Kristin, William III and Debbie and four great grandchildren, Chelsae, Ryan, Tiana and Jaime, and two great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. 2498	It is reported that Sylvester Higgins came to Detroit in 1835. Two years later he joined Douglass Houghton surveying the State of Michigan. In 1849 Sylvester left Detroit after it was discovered that he had submitted erroneous surveys of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. He then left with a group of Detroiter's and set out in search of adventure. They left for New York City where they booked passage on the ship Loo Choo which set sail on its voyage around the Horn on march 8, 1849, and arrived in San Francisco 192 days later on September 16, 1949. Sylvester did not spend his time searching for gold in California but settled on a ranch and began making surveys for the ranch owner Captain Sutter who was the owner of large tracks of land that he had purchased from the Mexican government through grants. Sylvester drew maps of properties that Sutter was going to sell to French and English entrepreneurs. Sylvester returned to Detroit in 1854 for a visit. When he returned to California many of the land grants that Captain Sutter had him surveying were made null by the Supreme Court. Sylvester returned to Detroit in 1858 to visit with his family much poorer than previous visits. Higgins still wanted to make it rich, so he headed to Texas where he purchased a ranch and stocked it with sheep. An unexpected cold spell and blizzard killed off half of his flock. Sylvester still was not beaten and returned to surveying. He found a job surveying railroad routes in the state. He was drafted into service on 18 Aug 1863 in Victoria Co., TX for 6 months. He appears on two muster rolls. One on 18 Aug 1863 and second on 29 Sep 1863. During his time in Military service in Texas Militia, Sylvester caught a cold and never fully recovered. When the war ended Sylvester moved to St. Louis, Mo to live with his son Sylvester Higgins, Jr. In ill health with tuberculosis Higgins lingered on for a year dying March 4, 1866. Beloved husband of the late Georgina May King (Abbott) of Sudbury for 61 years. Left to mourn his passing and cherish his memory are his loving children Mary Gauthier (Paul) of Pembroke, Marjorie Libbey (Dale) of Sudbury, Allan King (Kimberly) of Ottawa, Wayne King (Heather) of Saint John, NB and Michael King of Sudbury. Born in Nipissing, Ontario the son of the late George King and Gertrude Yerkie. Dear brother of Kay (Larry Cashmore predeceased), James (Rita) both predeceased, Lloyd (Fay), Eddy (June), Richard (Beverly), May (Bob) (Stanley Sprague predeceased), and Clifford (Lillian), Mary (Cecil Tremblay) all predeceased. Sadly, missed by 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. As a young boy Floyd worked in the logging camps around Nipissing where he first met Georgina. From there he moved to Sudbury where he found employment with INCO in the early 50's. He worked in the Smelter as a Puncher for many years and then as a Skimmer, retiring in 1991 after working 41 years. He seldom missed a day's work over his long career. He was dedicated to his job and the company. The family recalls having summer vacations every year while they grew up, visiting family friends in Dansville, NY, Toronto Crystal Beach, and Nipissing visiting Uncle Daniel's Farm. Left to mourn her passing and cherish her memory are her loving children Mary Gauthier (Paul) of Marmora, Marjorie Libbey (Dale) of Sudbury, Allan King (Christianne) of Orleans, Wayne King (Heather) of St. John, NB and Michael King of Sudbury. Born in Toronto, she was the cherished daughter of George and Mary Abbott, both predeceased. Survived by sisters Pearl Lightbody of North Bay and Peggy Barker of St. Catharines. Sadly missed by 9 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She will always be lovingly remembered for her beautiful quilts, crocheting and her sewing skills. At her request there will be no service.
