Garner A. Pennock, age 93, of Battle Creek, MI died Wednesday morning, May 22, 2013 at The Oaks of NorthPointe Woods, Battle Creek.
Garner, the son of Leon A. and Helen N. (Starring) Pennock, was born on the family farm at Pleasant Lake, Delton, Ml on August 5, 1919 and he was a graduate of Delton High School in 1938. In September of 1941, he enlisted in the United States Army Air Corps with the 8th Air Force, which was the first Heavy Bombardment Group to arrive in England in August of 1942. He served 2-1/2 years as a Sergeant (Aircraft Technician) on the Liberator Bombers with the 93rd
Bomb Group, 329th Squadron that was known as "Ted's Flying Circus."
Garner, who served in the entire European Theater, received 2 Silver Battle Stars and 1 Bronze Battle Star for his gallantry. After WWII, he returned to work at Eaton Manufacturing as a Supervisor. In 1953, he became a Real Estate Broker and enjoyed his profession for over 50 years. He loved the general public and wishes to thank each and every one! Garner was a lifetime member of the Hickory Corners Lodge # 345, F & AM and had been a member of the Battle Creek Area Association of Realtors. His pastimes were the out-of-doors, gardening and wood working.
Garner married the former Margaret M. "Marge" Hammer on October 15, 1949, in St. Joseph, MI, whom he met at the doctor's office where she was an RN and she preceded him in death on November 23, 2003. Two boys were born to the marriage, Steven T. Pennock of Bellevue, WA and Tom A. Pennock of Battle Creek. Also surviving are a cousin, one niece and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Naomi.
As per Garner's request, a Graveside Service to celebrate his life was held on Saturday, May 25th at 11:00 a.m. at Hickory Corners (MI) Cemetery and the Rev. Jeff Worden, Pastor of the Hickory Corners Bible Church, officiated. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Garner's honor may be made to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 93, Battle Creek, MI 49016. The Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, Battle Creek was in charge of all the arrangements.

GARRETT, JOE, Joseph Marcus Garrett, 88, Sanford, FL, died Saturday, April 5, 2008. He was born in Greenville, GA and moved to Sanford in 1947 from Gadsden, AL. In 1947 he and his wife, Laura, opened Garretts Department Store in Sanford which was a downtown landmark until it closed in 1993. During that time he was active in the Sanford Merchants Association and the Sanford Chamber of Commerce. He was a US Army Veteran of WWII and a member of The First Presbyterian Church of Sanford. Joe Garrett was predeceased by his brother, E.C. Garrett; sister, Catherine Jenkins; and his grandson, Joshua Marcus Garrett. Gary C. Van Skiver Jr. passed away suddenly Sept. 16, 2012, at age 46.
Survived by his mother, Shirley Clark of Dansville; father, Gary Van Skiver Sr. of Parkersburg; siblings, Wendy and Dave Young Forsey of Merrit Island, Fla., James and Angela Van Skiver of Parkersburg, W.Va., and Angel and Fred Woodworth of Dansville, N.Y.; maternal grandmother, Mary Clark of Wayland and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Gary has always been a fun, caring person who helped everyone he knew. He went through some very rocky times in his life from a very low birthweight, to a brain tumor, to severe burns from a fire, but always managed to come thru everything with a smile on his face.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be at 6 p.m. Sept. 27 at the fire hall on Franklin Street in Dansville.

Gary C. Van Skiver, Sr. 75, of Vienna, passed away December 4, 2019 at Camden Clark Medical Center.
He was born May 7, 1944 in Sayre, PA, the son of the late Carlton Van Skiver and Charlena (Rose) Van Skiver.
Gary served in the US Army from 1962 to 1965. He owned and operated Van?s Auto Repair for over 25 years. Gary enjoyed competition shooting, watching the Green Bay Packers and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his wife Cathy of 39 years; son, James (Angie); daughter, Crystal (John); four grandchildren, James, Jessica, Ryan and Katelyn and brother, Roland John Van Skiver, Sr.
He was a very kind and loving and generous man, who will be greatly missed by family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Gary C. Van Skiver, Jr. and sister, Norma Jean Collins.
A memorial service for Gary will be held at 3:00 P.M., Monday, December 9, 2019, at Lambert-Tatman Funeral Home, Vienna, with Pastor David Carrico officiating.

Gary Everett Pennock, 54, of Detroit, died Thursday (March 25, 2010) in Regional Medical Center in Memphis, Tenn. Gary was born Dec. 17, 1955, in Pittsfield, a son of Everett and Lois Reel Pennock. Gary was a graduate of East Pike High School and attended Detroit United Methodist Church. He was employed at JBS United, Griggsville, as a truck driver and was the owner of Gary Pennock trucking. Gary enjoyed riding his Harley- Davidson and his four wheeler, was an avid fan of Jeff Gordon on the NASCAR circuit, going to coffee and sitting at the "Liar's Table" and collecting bicentennial quarters, and greatly loved being with his grandchildren. Survivors include his special companion, Lori Thornton of Detroit; four children, Ryan Smith and his mother, Maria Smith, of Milton, Michael Lawson of Chambersburg, Heather Robinson of Detroit, and Hillary Pennock of Springfield; five grandchildren, Matthew Fowler, Zachary Robinson, Kaitlyn Robinson, Peyton Lawson and Jaren Lawson; five brothers and two sisters, Roger (Brenda) Pennock and Jerry (Wanda) Pennock, both of Detroit, Jamie (Brandi) Pennock, John (Lisa) Pennock and Reggie (Kim) Pennock, all of Pittsfield, Marcia (Kay) Dehart of Pittsfield and Nancy (Dick) Lomelino of Detroit; his stepmother, Bev Littleton of Pittsfield; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Gary Fredrick Grant May 7, 1945 - March 16, 2017 Gary Frederick Grant passed away at the Hospice at Maycourt on March 16. Gary was 71. He is survived by his children, Simon, Stephanie, and MacKenzie and his wife, Diane Grant. He was also a father to Alysa. Stepfather to Roger and Jacquie and proud grandfather to Ethan. He was predeceased by his son, Josiah, his wife, Lynn Barbara Grant (nee Currie) and his parents, Fred Grant and Margaret Grant (nee Gilpin).
A service will be held at Free Methodist Church, 573 County Rd 29, Smiths Falls on Friday March 24 at 1:00pm. This will be followed by a celebration of Gary's life at his home at 25 Daniel St., Smiths Falls.

Gay, Larry Passed away on Thursday, February 19, 2015 at Bronson Methodist Hospital, Kalamazoo. Larry was born November 2, 1943 in Battle Creek, MI to Wayne E. Gay and Beryle (Pennock-Gay) Sage. He graduated from Delton Kellogg High School in 1962. He joined the Marine Corp in January 1963 for 4 years and spent 9 months in Viet Nam. Larry worked 3-1/2 years as a deputy for the Barry County Sheriff Dept. and 27-1/2 years as a deputy for the Kalamazoo County Sheriff Dept., retiring in December, 1999. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Joan (Knobloch) Gay; their son, Randy; brothers, Wayne (Jan) Gay and Kevin (Diane) Sage; sister, Debra Sutter; several nieces, nephews, stepbrothers and a stepsister. It is with sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Gayle Ouellette (nee Elder), 80, of Carman, Manitoba, after experiencing recent heart issues. Mom will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Deb (Bill) Vanderveen and son Rick Ouellette (Rhonda Spencer).
Each and everyday Mom missed our father, John, who passed away in 2014. She was also predeceased by brothers Bryson (Lucille) Elder, Jim Elder, Lynn Elder; sister Cheryl (Ron) Muir; brother-in-law?s Norm Ouellette, Ray Ouellette, and Cliff Archibald. Mom will be deeply missed by her sister Sharon McCoy of Pilot Mound and sister-in-law?s Joyce Elder of Holland, MB, Aurore Ouellette of Cold Lake, AB, Darlene Ouellette of Langley, BC, Bernice Archibald of Elm Creek, MB; brother-in-law Delbert (Bonnie) of Lacombe, AB, and half-brother-in-law Stuart Hooey (Audrey) of Treherne, MB. Mom was born in Woodbay, MB to William and Edith Elder. After finishing school, she moved to Elm Creek where she met the love of her life, John. Together their lives took on many adventures while dad was in the RCAF living in Gimli, France, Germany, Moose Jaw, Dartmouth, Shearwater, Elm Creek, Holland, and finally in Carman. She worked at the CIBC in Elm Creek at the age of 17 before their marriage in 1959, then rejoined the same branch when they moved back to Elm Creek in 1977. Mom had a vast number of talents including arts and crafts, sewing, crocheting, knitting and always an enthusiastic crib player. She was always a steadfast partner with Dad in every stage of their lives together whether making a new home for their family in each of the places they lived, fencing on a hobby farm, or weekend camping trips following the horse races.
Friends were important to Mom. After Dad passed, Mom kept busy staying connected to friends and family. She loved meeting up for long lunches and getaway trips with girlfriends no matter if it was a short drive to a restaurant or a 2 week long bus trip. She never lost her love of travel.
She was our Mom, but always our best friend as well. We will miss you dearly, Mom.

George A. Price, 73, of 112 Woodlawn Avenue, died at 5:30 a.m. Sunday, February 13, 1955 at his home after an illness of several months.
Surviving are his wife, one son, George Price, 136 Russell Road; a brother, Walter Price, Potsdam; two sisters, Mrs. Michael (Dora) Jerome, Potsdam and Mrs. Laura Bice, Ogdensburg, and two grandchildren.
Mr. Price was born November 5, 1881 in Berwick, Ontario the son of Arthur and Catherine Ouderkirk Price. He received his early education in Berwick and moved to Potsdam with his parents when a boy of 12.
On September 9, 1910 he and Neda LaPointe were married in Potsdam. He worked as a carpenter and millwright in Potsdam and Pyrites and on April 1, 1914 became employed by the Massena Works of Alcoa, working there until his retirement nine years ago. He was a member of Alcoa's 25-Year Club and of St. Mary's Church.

George Bakos, 80, of Lady Lake, Fla., formerly of Middletown died Sunday, Nov. 30 at his home in Lady Lake. He was a warehouseman and manager for Middletown Plumbing and Heating in Middletown for 49 years before retiring in 1993. He was born in Newark, and lived in Middletown for 50 years, moving to Lady Lake 15 years ago. George celebrated his 80th birthday with a party in September surrounded by his family and friends. He was a former member of Middletown Elks Lodge 2179, Middletown, and VFW Post 2179, Port Monmouth. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean conflict.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris M. Bakos, 1962; sister, Mary Bakos and brother, John Bakos. Surviving are his wife of 30 years, Marion White Bakos, of Lady Lake; son, George J. Bakos, of Long Branch; son and daughter-in-law, William and Diane Bakos, of Bricktown; daughter, Lynn Bakos, of Port Monmouth; daughter and son-in-law, Gail and Lester Long, of Red Bank; step-son, Edward Marsh, of Oceanport; step-son, Richard Marsh, of Bricktown; step-son, William Marsh, of Bricktown; step-son, Christopher Marsh of Middletown; grandchildren, Dana and Dan Kolmer; great- grandsons, Ryan and Joshua Kolmer; brother, Edward Bakos, of Whiting; sister, Elsie Bakos, of Whiting; sister, Eleanor Turcsik of Union and 13 step-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at John F. Pfleger Funeral Home, 115 Tindall Road, Middletown. Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Thursday at the Funeral Home. George Bostwick
Longtime resident of Hood River, George Eben Bostwick, passed away March 27, 2004, at Providence Hospital in Portland, Ore. He was 78 years of age.
Funeral services will be held at Anderson Tribute Center on Friday, April 2, at 2 p.m. with interment at Idlewild Cemetery in Hood River.
George was born in Battle Creek, Mich., on March 14, 1926, the son of Lyle D. and Edith Wilson Bostwick.
He was preceded in death by an older brother Kenneth and has two living sisters, Marie of Battle Creek, Mich., and Betty of Spray, Ore. His family moved to Portland when he was three years old and he attended grade school there. They moved to Hood River for eighth grade at Barrett School, then back to Portland to complete grade school. He returned to Hood River in 1940 to attend high school. He graduated in 1944.
On Feb. 1, 1944, George joined the U. S. Navy and he served in the South Pacific Theater - New Guinea, Australia and the Philippine Islands. He was discharged May 26, 1946, in Bremerton, Wash., and returned to Hood River where he married his childhood sweetheart, Eileen Evans, at the old Hood River Valley Christian Church on Sept. 9, 1946.
George and Eileen were blessed with two children, Thomas George and Annette Louise, and four grandchildren: Marsha Schnieder of Fredricksburg, Va.; Mary Bostwick of Hood River; Becky and Joshua Owen, of Corvallis, Ore.
George worked most of his life in the Hood River Valley that he loved. During his employed years he worked at the saw mill in Dee; in the Radliff Orchards; as a salesman at Hood River Supply; a realtor for Larry Young and 26 years for the United States Postal Service where he retired on July 9, 1985.
After retirement George enjoyed having the time to continue working in the garden; boating on the Columbia (especially in the wind); hiking; camping; fishing; metal detecting and he and his wife enjoyed traveling extensively in the United States and other countries.
From his youth, George had been involved in the Christian faith. He was active in the Hood River Valley Christian Church for 34 years having served as a deacon and an elder and helped in the construction of the present building. In his later years he had been active in the Odell and Tucker Road Baptist Churches.

George Burton Moses, 84, of Canton, ascended to Valhalla on Saturday, (March 26, 2005). Born May 29, 1920 in Unionville, son of the late George Lyman and Gertrude (Harris) Moses. A veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army, George was an inventor, pilot, scholar, outdoorsman and highly skilled carpenter. His outstanding collection of American antique ironware is on display at the Morris Connecticut Museum. He is survived by three daughters, Rebecca Moses of Canton, Sharon Iles of Haddam and Lucinda Moses of Windsor; and cousins and friends.
