| Record: Immigration Alice Farthing, 21, sailed from Southampton on the SS Ascania on June 27, 1925, arriving in Quebec on July 5, 1925. She travelled third class, with passage paid by the Canadian Government. She took the CNR train to Mattawa, Ontario where she met up with her husband-to-be, John Hazelwood. Her contact back in Britain, was her grandmother, Mrs. Farthing, in Greens Court, Upper Ipswich. Alice immediately became a Landed Immigrant. |

| St John's Children's Home, Ipswich, Suffolk An eight-bedroom hotel, the Freehold Tavern on the corner of Bloomfield Street and Freehold Road opened in 1860. The venture failed and in 1869 it became the St John's Children's Home. The property, later known as Freelands, was demolished in the 1970's and replaced with a housing estate.
