- Mrs Adam Johnson Passes Away In Her 98th Year.
One of Almonte's oldest residents, Mrs Mary Catherine Munro Johnson, passed away at the Almonte General Hospital early Sunday morning, August 2nd. Mrs Johnson had been a patient in the hospital for exactly one month when her death occurred. She was in her 98th year. Born in Lanark Township on January 5, 1872, she was a daughter of Daniel Munro and his wife Margaret McMunn. She was the last surviving of a family of twelve. She was married to Mr Adam Johnson on March 13, 1894, at Webbwood, Ontario, and resided at Massey for five years before coming to Almonte in 1900. For the first five years in Almonte they resided on the Harold Robertson farm on the outskirts of town, and in 1905 moved to the present home on Queen Street, Mr Johnson predeceased his wife in 1945, and a son, Dr Williard E. Johnson died at a early age in 1933. Mrs Johnson was a member of Almonte United Church, and a life member of the Women's Missionary Society. Surviving are three daughters, Gertrude (Mrs Wm Colborne) and Miss Margaret Johnson of Almonte, and Isabel (Mrs R.G. Whitelaw) of London, Ontario. The funeral service was held at the Comba Funeral Home, Church Street, on Tuesday, August 4th, at 2 p.m. and was conducted by Rev Morris of Almonte United Church. Burial was made at the Auld Kirk Cemetery. Pallbearers were John H. Munro, John Currie, Charles Rath and Edwin Halpenny.
