- Edith M. LaBrode, 76, of 109 Euclid Ave. died yesterday at Hillcrest Commons, where she had been a patient for less than two months.
Born in Pittsfield on Aug. 7, 1924, daughter of William J. and Catherine McQuatt Goddard, she was a 1941 graduate of Pittsfield High School and a 1942 graduate of Berkshire Business College.
Mrs. LaBrode was employed by the House of Mercy and Pittsfield General Hospital at various times from the 1940s through 1960s. From 1970 until 1985, she was employed by Berkshire Medical Center in the medical library.
She was a member of First Church of Christ Congregational. She enjoyed reading and was presented a plaque by the Berkshire Athenaeum in 1995 for borrowing the most books. She also enjoyed crossword puzzles and knitting.
She leaves her husband, Robert D. LaBrode, whom she married May 17, 1947; three sons, Robert D. LaBrode of Savoy, Peter J. LaBrode of Fort Worth, Texas, and David P. LaBrode of Haverhill; a sister, Gladys King of Pittsfield; three grandchildren, and a great-grandson.
The funeral will be Saturday at 10 at WELLINGTON FUNERAL HOME in Pittsfield, with the Rev. Dr. Richard F. Floyd, pastor of First Church of Christ, Congregational, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home will be today, Friday, from 4 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to either the American Cancer Society, the Salvation Army or HospiceCare in the Berkshires.
