- Eleanor L. Davis 1919 - 2009 BENNINGTON Eleanor L. Davis, 89, a lifelong resident of Wilmington passed away peacefully May 10, 2009, at the Village at Fillmore Pond. Born in Wilmington on June 30, 1919, the daughter of Harry and Bertha Adams Cutting, she received her education from Wilmington schools, graduating from Wilmington High School, class of 1937. Eleanor worked for many years as a dental assistant for Dr. Hay and Dr. Haught and then did bookkeeping for her husband's business, Philip Davis and Son, for many years. Eleanor was a member and very active in the Wilmington Congregational Church. She was a member of the Wilmington Historical Society and one of the last members of the Higley Hill Homemakers. Eleanor enjoyed golf, walking and flowers. In her earlier years, she liked to travel and square dance. She enjoyed working on crossword puzzles and cherished times spent with her family. Her husband, Philip Davis, whom she married Aug. 20, 1944, in Wilmington, died Sept. 5, 2001. Eleanor leaves her son, Alan Davis and his wife, Lynn, of Wilmington; her daughter, Ann Stone and her husband, Robert, of Wilmington and Florida, her grandchildren, Jeffrey and Duane Stone and Kimberly Laird, and her great-grandchildren, Daniel, Annika and Ava Stone. She was predeceased by her grandson, Eric Davis who died in 2003, and by her sister, Marguerite Evans. FUNERAL NOTICE: A celebration of the life of Eleanor L. Davis will be Friday, May 15, 2009, at 1 p.m. at the Wilmington Congregational Church. Interment will follow in the family lot in Cutting, Intervale Cemetery. There will be no visiting hours.
