- BARNETT George "Dudley" Barnett passed away in Kelowna General Hospital on Friday, December 28th at the age of 92. Survived by Irene, his loving wife of 64 years, and four children; Lesley Brown (Stan), Loreen Barnett, Alden Barnett (Kathy Hamilton) and Cathy Cochrane (Kirk), 8 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Sadly predeceased by grandson Trever Cochrane in 1974. Dudley was born and raised in Saskatchewan. After enrolling in Medical School at the University of Manitoba he enlisted with the Canadian Army Medical Corp. Upon completion of his medical training in 1944 he was immediately sent to Halifax to begin his army service. For the duration of the war he provided medical services on the ships transporting troops to Europe and home. Following the war he accepted a position with the Saskatchewan Anti-Tuberculosis League. He dedicated his career to the prevention and treatment of TB, retiring in 1982 from the position of General Superintendent and Director of Medical Services. During his 36 year career with the League, Dudley saw many changes in the treatment of TB, including the closure of all three tuberculosis sanitoria in Saskatchewan. After retirement he and Irene enjoyed many trips together and in 1987 moved to Kelowna, B.C. A private family service will be held at a later date.
