- HUGHES, Nelson Quinton - Mr. Nelson Hughes died suddenly at the job-site after a full days work laying blocks on Monday, August 19, 2002 in his 74th year. Nelson Hughes was the beloved husband of Stella Waldriff Hughes of Callander and the loving father of Janet Young (Clare) of St. Catherines, Linda Zwierschke (Leonard) of Fonthill, Lois Poirier (Dan) of St. Catharines, Sharlene Spillane (Jim) of Sarnia and step- father of Sherry LeBoeuf (Victor) of Callander, Garnet Hughes (Cara Lee) of Callander, Kyla Johnson (Scott) of Nipissing, Harvey Hughes (Suzanne) of Callander and Tonya Wagner (Bart) of Powassan. He was the loving grandfather of 25 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Nelson was the dear brother of Pat Peever (Doug) of North Bay, Louilla Odd of North Bay and Margaret McDonald of Callander. Also survived by his sisters-in-law Rita Hughes of Alberta and Mary Hughes of Nipissing, and his former wife Ella Ireland Hughes of St. Catharines. Nelson was predeceased by his parents Agnes and Harvey Hughes, his brothers Lloyd, Wellington, Garnet, Floyd and Harvey Hughes and his sister Marcella McTiernan. The family will receive visitors at the Paul Funeral Home in Powassan 724-2024 today, Wednesday, August 21, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The funeral service will be in the chapel on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. Interment Nipissing Cemetery. If desired, donations may be made to the Ontario Heart & Stroke Foundation or the charity of your choice.
