Mother, Son Die In iowa Home Fire

The death toll reached three today from fires in two Iowa homes. The high school gymnasium at Tracy also was destroyed by fire.
Mrs. Marcellus Westmeier, 31, died of burns in a Maquoketa hospital, several hours after the blaze in which her nine-month-old son, Jimmy, perished and four others of her eight children were injured.
The other death was that of Mrs. Mary Banning, about 80, in a fire at her Rock Rapids home.
The condition of Westmeier, 31, a farmer at: Crabtown, 17 miles north of Maquoketa, was still critical today as was that of his daughter, Grace. 8. Three other children- Janice, 6, and Gerald and Joseph, both 5--were in fair condition.
