- Erwin Wayne Pennock, age 92 of Chippewa Lake and formerly of Battle Creek, died Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at the home of his long time companion Patricia Morrett. Mr. Pennock was born December 4, 1918 in Ross Township to Tracey and Emma (Langs) Pennock. He married Lena Carrie Page on June 8, 1938. They made their home in Battle Creek before moving to Chippewa Lake in 1976. Erwin served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater. He was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Ribbon with 3 Bronze Service Stars and the World War II Victory Medal. After the war he was employed by Eaton's Manufacturing Company for 36 years as a Tool and Die Maker. He was a member of the Holiday Rambler Traveler's Club and a lifelong member of the National Rifle Association. He loved hunting, boating and was a craftsman in the art of welding. His wife Lena died in 1993 after 55 years of marriage. The last fifteen years of his life has been spent with his devoted and loving companion Patricia Morrett. He was a kind and devoted husband, father, grandpa and great-grandpa who will be missed. He is survived by his son, Gordon and his wife JoAnn (Langs) Pennock, his daughter, Carolyn (Pennock) Abbott and her husband Mark. He has 5 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Erwin was preceded in death by his wife Lena, his parents Tracey and Emma, his sister Ida Mae (Pennock) Stoddard and his brother Maurice. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 30th at the home of Pat Morrett, 10625 N. Lake Dr. on Chippewa Lake with Dr. Rev. Robert Braman officiating. Interment will follow the service at Chippewa Lake Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice Memorial Fund or to the American Cancer Society.
