- Lula V. Rice, 103, of Corpus Christi, formerly of Baytown, passed away Sunday, July 23, 2017. Born in Pine Bluff, Arkansas on October 30, 1913, Lula was a resident of Baytown for over 60 years.
She taught in the Goose Creek Independent School District for 20 years at the elementary level, retiring at Lamar Elementary. She was an active member of Grace Methodist Church, Goose Creek Country Club, Stephen Society of the United Methodist Church, Delta Kappa Gamma, Daughters of the American Revolution, United Daughters of the Confederacy, National Society of the Colonial Dames of America, and co-founder of the Thursday Forum. Mrs. Rice spent the last remaining years of her life in Temple and Corpus Christi, TX. Hers was a life well lived.
Mrs. Rice was preceded in death by her husband, Allen A. Rice; son, Allen Gene Rice; grandson, James Allen Rice; sister, Georgia Walker; and brother-in-law, N. W. ?Happy? Walker.
Survivors include granddaughters, Emily Foley and husband Ian of San Francisco, CA, Stephanie Caldwell and husband Jack of Spring Branch, TX; daughter-in-law, Rita Rice of
Salado TX; nephew and wife, Rusty and Susan Walker of Blum, TX; and niece and husband, Kay and Timothy Dunn of McKinney, TX, as well as, six great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren.
The family of Mrs. Rice would like to extend a special thanks to Diana Moreno, Jessica Martinez, and Janie Zamora and their families for the many years of loving care given to Lula.
The family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home Saturday, July 29, 2017 from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 29, 2017, at Navarre Funeral Home in Baytown, officiated by Reverend John Newsome. Interment will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
